Mine isn't up yet, but yes, I will have a site, for my business.

I bought Dreamweaver (which has WYSIWYG capabilities, thank goodness) though I haven't started on the physical site yet, still in the gathering stage. It will be hosted through ProStores (an eBay company).

It is exciting and nervewracking working on the idea alone - it should get more intense as time moves it more towards reality. Good thing I live for pressure.... ha!

I agree, Yahoo Site Builder is an excellent tool if you are not familiar with XML code. The cost is resonable as well. I used it for quite some time when I was maintaining webpage for the preschool I was teaching at a while back. Easy to update and you can make it look pretty good.

Another thing to consider is checking with your internet provider to see if they offer any free hosting space for your personal site. Many do. You can then use some simple web building programs to create your page.

All that being said, I do not have one right now! :bouncing-frog:

I have a retail website that is not "digi scrap" related: www.gold-n-treasures.net. I have had it for about three years and am in the process of revamping the whole thing and moving to an entirely different line of stuff to sell. I am also working on a family site.

I bought an html editor from www.coffeecup.com to do my family site. Very easy to use. They offer hosting services as well. I don't have it up yet....just not enough hours in the day !!

My retail site is hosted and maintained by Sue at http://www.web-designing.org. Her prices are very reasonable and she has done a very good job for me.

Hope this helps.

Having your own website is super easy nowadays...there is lots of sites, like Yahoo, who offer free sites and their programs for building the page is super simple. Another idea is to start a blog...it is also really easy to do -- http://www.blogger.com is one of the easiest to do. You can even start a blog here at Scrap Girls (see the blog link at the top of this page).

A great thing that I picked up a while back to help me design a few websites for my sis was a book on html. Made it so much easier for me, ;). Also, if you do a search on google you can also find some great tips and such for designing websites as well as the coding and also some neat little scripts for things like clocks and scrolling etc. ;)

I build mine all using HTML... of course I learned the HTML in high school! I don't like the WYSIWYG programs... I had dreamweaver before and it just didn't help me out and didn't work out as good as doing all the writing HTML myself.

Welcome Fran! You've already gotten some great advice here ... all I can add is - for personal sites, free is good - for business & professional sites, find a webhost & get your own domain name for a yearly fee - it's worth it to do it right the first time. JMHO Ü
I have one. I got mine through Homestead and they have a site builder that helps you to create one, or they also have premade designs that you can use. I do not know all the programming stuff, so this was good.
me too I got mine through homestead years back.. for my orchids and I like to make stationery too and wallpaper, so I post all that on my site but it is mostly for orchid growing at home.

What is WYSIWYG? What is your site going to sell, if you don't mind me asking?

WYSIWYG is "what you see is what you get"
Its an online CMS (Content Management System) which enables you to edit the text/content of the website.

I don't have one of my own yet but I did one for the NYPD Boxing Team and a friend's auto business. I maintain them both. You'd think since I went to school for web design, I'd have one wouldn't you? No time! I will be getting another one up and running soon though.

I decided to learn to write my own HTML code by hand too. It's really not that hard once you get the hang of it! There is an online school that is VERY reasonable... like $25 for a 6 week class!

And here's a great FREE site that I've learned a lot from: http://www.lissaexplains.com/

I tried yahoo geocites & their builder. However, I wanted to apply my own & I had trouble doing it, as it wouldn't let me download anything from my computer.

Nor did it tell me how And I was wondering if maybe there was some program that I should of had, that would of enabled me to upload my graphic's. Or if it is just a flake in their system, or me.

It should have been easy & actually, I learn visually: LOL.

I have some websites in regards to Forums & also Yahoo Groups. I find those ones do what I need them to do. However, I do hope to have one that I've learned to write & apply as I'm taking a class called HTML Guru's via yahoo groups. Once completed, then I hope to get another one up.

I sure wont be any help for sure. I write my own code with notepad. hah. But I can say back in the day my very first page was on a free site. It makes it a lot easier to use builders and then switch to source and you can kinda learn that way.
