I feel like I'm going to sound really stupid by asking this one, but . . . . I want to send a LO to my printer in the other room to print with out actually being "plugged into it" but I'm not sure if I can. Sure would be nice though. I actually dropped my laptop because I forgot it was still plugged into my printer and started to walk away with it still plugged in. (How embarrassing!!! :embarrassed003:)

I don't really know what requirements I even need. My printer is a Cannon Pixma MP610. I also have a wireless network adapter if that would help. I sure would appreciate any help or direction with this.

Thanks again!

Does your printer have a card reader and/or USB port on the front? With most of your newer printers, you can plug your camera directly to your printer with the USB cord that connects your camera to your computer, or else you can remove the memory card and slide it into the appropriate slot, and your printer can read the card.

Yes, you can do this if your printer has wireless capabilities. I think most of the newer ones do. Mine is an older printer, but I am able to print wirelessly with my laptop through the network. The only catch there is that I think you have to have a computer that is connected to the printer and on the same network as the laptop. My desktop is connected to the printer and they are all connected to the network, so on my laptop I choose that printer as the default and it prints. Hope that helps some!

Our printer are connected through a wireless network and my dd can print from her laptop even though the printer is not wireless. It does go through the desktop that is set up as our server.

More and more of the newer printers are wireless, a few have a wireless adapter you can purchase. The set up we have at home is an older printer (but still working very well after 6 or 7 years) is hooked up to the "main" desktop computer that our cable modem and wireless router are hooked up to. All of our laptops (4 of them) are networked to each other and the printer so we can print from anywhere. Our home office is in the basement, so I find myself printing something, going downstairs to pick it up, finding out no-one reloaded paper or ink, reloading, going back upstairs, reprinting, going back downstairs. LOL. I have a second printer upstairs that is fairly new but not wireless, and so I have to either put what I want to print on a thumbdrive or EHD, then go print it. That's the way I do most of my LOs. I can assure you, the next time I get a printer it will be wireless.

While our printer isn't wireless, we can print on it from all the computers in the house. It is connected to our library computer and is shared with the other computers on our network. I'm pretty sure the drivers are installed on the other computers, and when we print from another computer we choose "Brother 2040 on Library." If this is something you're interested in doing, I could find out more about how Bob set it up.

You first need to make sure you have a home network set up. There should be a "wizard" to help you with that. It needs to be set up on all the computers. Then if your printer is plugged into a computer that's on the network, you need to make sure it's shared. To share a printer, open your printers folder from the Control Panel, view installed printers, right-click on the printer you want to share, and click "Sharing." Then click the circle button next to "share this printer." Then you'll have to install that printer on the other computers, and you'll need the driver.

Hi AnaLee!

I used to have a setup similar to some of the ladies above, but I have recently changed to a wireless printer for all our "general purpose" printing. ( I still use a dedicated photo one for layouts and pictures).

You need a wireless capable laptop, which I think you already have. A wireless router, and a wireless printer, or a printer that can accept a network card.

The setup will depend on your own home network, but basically the router regards the wireless printer as though it were just another device, like say another computer, on your network.

Once you have the wireless printer set up, any computer in your house should be able to access it. I have 2 desktops and 2 laptops that have access to the printer (plus two xbox360's and a Wii) all running wirelessly. Way to go wireless!

Hope this explains a bit of how it works!

Hugs
