With the holiday's fast approaching, I wanted to share something that really touched me in a magical way, for many years around the holiday season. I read an article as it was republished by the newspaper company I once worked for, really enjoyed the article when it was reprinted, and decided that I would hunt down the article while doing a research project in one of my classes. Well, with the help of my former employer, who had pointed me to this website, the article was there and I wanted to share it with all of my friends here.

Parents with young children might appreciate this as much as I have because it helped me to answer one question that many children have about a man in a red suit. ;)

To have a friend is to have a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold and an extra pair of legs when yours are too weak to stand alone...

I have been living buried in books and writing classes... as an added note I must say that it is rather scary when you start dreaming and all you can see within your dreams is words floating everywhere!

I always thought it was such a beautiful article and such a well-written response to a question many children ask around this time of year. :snow_cool:

Thanks Valerie! I've bookmarked that link. My youngest DD is 11. I'm not totally sure if she does or doesn't believe anymore. My older one point blank asked me when she was 10. She had found some gifts under the bed (the absolute ONLY year I had ever put stuff under there cause it was too big to go elsewhere) and kids at school were really giving her something to think about.

She refuses to 'ruin it' for her sister. 2 years ago my youngest asked the question and we told her of course he exists (completely different conversation than the first). One of the girls in her class (who lived on my street) was making fun of her. My DH had Santa visit on the Ambulance which magically didn't stop at the other girl's house. Kerry thought that was very telling. 'Do you think he didn't stop because she doesn't believe?' ... kids don't miss much.

Have a great day!
