We are in the middle of a PCS from Germany to Alaska. We shipped out household goods the first week of October because it takes 3 months to get to AK. After 2 months in an empty house with loaner Flintstone furniture, a husbadn who went TDY for 4 of those weeks, a kidney stone and subsequent 4 day hospital stay while my 3 girls lived with friends, a 30 hour trip from Geilenkirchen, Germany to Anchorage, a whirlwind week of rental-hunting and the subsequent arguements (I want 1700sqft, his ego can't take less than 2200 grrr) and the most horrific of all...my computer got hit by a virus and I have NO Photoshop until January 25th!!!!!!!! And that's if I can find the box my other computer is packed in!!! The HORROR!!!

On the upside, I think I could live here forever! I haven't seen the sun, nor the mountains for more than 1 hours in the last week, but this place is AMAZING!!!!! I can't wait for a little sun to go shot some nature!

I've never been to Alaska in the winter, but I can imagine how strange it feels not to see the sun. We took a trip in Norway once where the sun didn't set for about a week, and that was strange. I can see that you are a person who makes the most out of each duty station (we are retired Navy). Even though the moving can be very difficult, I can tell that you manage to find the good in it. I'm sure that living in Alaska can be amazing, so enjoy.

I wish we had made it to Alaska when my uncle what stationed there. Military life and all the moving can be stressful, know we all appreciate your husband and families service!

Enjoy learning about your new home.

Gwen, you definitely deserve a Meritorious Survivor Medal with V device for this move!
(we gave those out as gag goodbye gifts)
That is definitely the worst PCS story I have ever heard.
Just think of the layouts you can do documenting this, tho.
So glad you are maintaining your perspective!
:)

Oh, I'd love to live in Alaska. I can't imagine going through all that to move there, though. I hope you find the right box and are back up in Photoshop soon!

I'd love to see pictures! Wow, you've been through so much chaos for this move. Moving any distance is a challenge, even if it goes smoothly. I'm amazed with how much you've dealt with and you survived it.

Gwen - I want to say ... THANK YOU!!! Thank you for all that you do to support your DH and family. It's definitely a challenge, but what a wonderful place to have moved to (and from ...). Can't wait until all of those boxes arrive and we get to see some LO's of your new home.
