I am new to digital scrapbooking and am in awe of everythign that is available! I really like to get my hands dirty with paper scrapbooking but don't have the time so I am thinking digital is a compromise for now on my gifts and duplicates. I may decide it is the only way after a while, you never know.

Anyway, I am curious if anyone has an opinion on the Memory Mixer Software.

Thanks!
Dawn the digital newbie!

I have not heard of it myself but if you are trying to decide what to buy Adobe and Paint Shop both have trial downloads. I use both PaintShop Pro X and Adobe PSE3 and love them.

Let us know if you have specific questions and check out the SG University for more on the programs.

Unfortunately before I found you guys, I already ordered it online, it should be in next week. I feel like I probably wasted my money on it. Maybe I will try to sell it on eBay before I even open it up. I downloaded PSE 4 and am having fun with it and would rather spend the money on that.

Thanks!

My local scrapbook store sells the Memory Mixer software. I watched the promo video. It looks pretty easy to use. I really liked the fact that you can incorporate movies into your albums. I don't know if you can buy kits and stuff from anywhere on the web or if you have to use the kits that come with it though. I saw some of the stuff the owner of the store had made using this software and it looked great. I prefer to make my layouts more "from scratch", so this software wasn't really for me. It looks like it would be great for someone who is just starting out or who likes to just "drag and drop" layouts.

Thank you so much for this info.... this confirms my thoughts, I am going to sell it before I even open it. I don't know if I will get all of my money back but it s better than using that when I really like PSE4 and I can't afford both right now.

Thanks again!

I have it for the Macintosh. Actually, it came with both Mac and Windows platforms in the box. I have only used it on a Mac.

You definitely CAN work from scratch. You can download or purchase embellishments in png format. I have made several pages from scratch.

You can include music and movies and place hotspots on the pages for them. You can decide what kinds of transitions the pages will make. You can burn your scrapbook to a compact disc. (This really appealed to me as I would like to make digital scrapbooks for BOTH sets of grandparents.) You can also publish to a DVD.

Creating a scrapbook for CD is the real strength of the program. You can make a CD scrapbook and then burn copies of it. The CD scrapbook is supposed to play on either Mac or Windows and has buttons to advance to different pages in the scrapbook. This part of the program (creation of a CD scrapbook) seems to work just fine.

But if you want to actually print out your scrapbook, well, this is problematic. Printing seems very slow and not without error. I've tried saving the pages to Jpegs and Adobe PDF and it takes a very long time for the program to do this AND every time I have tried, elements from my pages have been lost. This also happens when I try to send the pages to my printer.

I was disappointed that the program isn't fully integrated with Iphoto and Ilife. I also notice that I have to copy photos and embellishments to my hard drive to use them. Folders with photographs or with elements that I purchase or download must be on the hard drive. Kind of annoying.

My husband very much wants a Wacom Graphire Tablet -- okay, I do too -- and so I will get Photoshop Elements when we get that. I will have to wait a month or two for that, but I will use this for now. I have to say that I *am* pleased with the idea of the CD scrapbooks, but had hoped to create a printed one too. I've written the MemoryMixer company to find out what the problem might be. (For the most part, my computer meets or exceeds tech specifications for the program. One spec it meets and even exceeds although it is recommended that it be higher, but the way it is written, I believe that it should at least work. It could work slowly and I'd be happy, but the dropped elements ARE a problem.)

Anyway, that's my updated review of the program.

I wrote to the folks at Memory Mixer and they said that they are working on an update (which should be out in the next week) that addresses the errors in output (ie. lost elements when printing to a file or to a printer.) Yay!

Also, they explained how to use images from CDs. Go to ADD PICTURE. Then in the drop down menu, go to VOLUMES where you will find your external drives listed. Click on the volume desired. I am trying to organize my embellishments and pictures on CD so this is handy.

As stated before, I haven't had a problem when viewing the album with the Album Viewer on my monitor. I do think that my family members will appreciate CD copies of the scrapbook. But there is at least one elderly aunt I'd like to print the current scrapbook I am working on as a book for.
