MaryJo
Here is a link to the article I found this morning. I thought it might be helpful for anyone who is thinking of buying a DSLR or adding lens to the one they have. Here it is: Building a DSLR

Sarah in VA
I found it to be an interesting article too, Mary Jo. But had to look twice at the paragraph where he said if you didn't have time to read the article and were impatient to get started. he recommended a reasonably priced camera (the Canon XTi) but then went on to suggest two lens - one at $439, and the other at $990 - said it would be a good choice. I guess! ;-) I believe that if I were going to spend that kind of money on a new camera and lenses, I'd take time to read the article, don't you? princessrunningfingers
I marked it to read when my head is clearer, like maybe tonight. Thanks for posting it.
bikeneday
I read the article, general good points about photography and cameras in general. However, I noticed some links are not working or current for some of his suggestions so I checked the article date - revised in November 2008. He also didn't have much nice to say about kit lenses & zoom lenses (unless they were top of the line zoom lenses). I guess for the most of us that are amateur, even as we aspire to be better - the kit lenses do a fine job. When we are able, then we purchase something else. I hate to think that someone would not purchase a camera with a kit lens solely on the content of this article.
Jane in N.Z
Looks interesting MJ so have saved it to read when I have more time
MaryJo
I totally agree with you Sara about the $. And I found the article interesting and informative but as information only. I wouldn't buy only on his suggestions but in general its an interesting article. I'm looking into buying another lens for my camera and ran across this article. There is so much to choose from in the line of cameras and one can get lost in all of it. So, for me reading up on what I'm looking for always helps me! I hope others find it enjoyable and hopefully useful!!
