Hello all,
my problem is that I made myself a new brush, a PNG file, and even managed to load it in my PSE.
It works just fine, but it never appears in my drop down list of brushes.

I went to my C drive into my Adobe folder, to save the brush there directly, and found that it is there.
How can I access it easily, without opening the PNG file all the time?

I have downloaded a couple of brushes from the internet a while ago, and they are in the drop down list just fine.

Thanks for any help!

I've had this happen to me, and I've found the brush at the end of the brushes that were loaded at the time I loaded my new one (if that makes sense). Also, you can go to the Preset Manager and look for it there. Good luck finding it!

Yes, it does stay there at the bottom of the list, until I close PSE. When I open it next time, the brush is gone.
Really. I went through the whole complete list of brushes twice, by text and by thumbnail.
It doesn't stay permanently.

I don't know if this will help or not but I think that you have to close down the computer then reopen again and then you may find them. Just a thought.

Maybe the new brush isn't being saved and that's why it's disappearing?

That is what makes it so weird for me. The brush is in the program folder, (C drive, programs, Adobe, PSE, presets, brushes.)along with those brushes I had downloaded from the internet. And while those brushes are in my drop down list, the one I made myself isn't.

I think you have to create a brush set with your new brush in it, and then save that. I am going to look for my Mastering Brushes book because I am pretty sure she covers this. (I very neatly printed it out to make it easier to refer to and now I can't find it, lol! So much for organization!)
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was,the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child....

Brushs,you can organize in sets.
A Brush Set is all similar brushs like all flowers, all hearts that are saved as .Abr file.
The Set can have any number of brushs from 2 to whatever number you want..
They can be assorted brushs of just many different designs also saved to the .ABR format
When you save the sets you named them accordingly.

Many PS Brushs you download are actually Brush Sets and not just 1 brush
Brush Sets are multiple brushs images.
Brush Sets are saved as .ABR files.

1 image is saved as a regular png image.

Many downloads are .zip format so you wont see see the files type
until you unzip the files many times.

Ooops I'm sorry..I meant to say that your brush file isn't being saved as part of a set and that's why it always disappears. The good news is that if you're seeing the ABR file on your computer, what you could do is go to Load Brush and then browse to the folder where your brush is. Once you do that, you need to go to the preset manager to either create a new set or add that individual brush to an existing set.

It sounds like you aren't saving your brush set through your preset manager. If you go to the manager, bring up your set, hit Control A to highlight everything in your set, then save set, then save to the preset folder. Just putting the ABR directly in your folder wont do it - be sure to do it through the manager.

A great book we have in the boutique is Mastering Brushes for Photoshop Elements .
I'm not sure what program you use but there is a photoshop version as well. There are some very good and easy to understand instructions in it on how to save your sets so that you can see them.
