I recently installed an Epson 1400 and the Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 software that came with the printer.

I'm posting this for anyone who is having the same problem I had because I've spent 3 days getting this issue resolved and hopefully this post will eliminate tears and temper tantrums for someone else!

The Guide that comes with the Epson 1400 lists the specific profiles for each type of Epson paper. From all I've read, it's best to use specific ICC profiles with whatever paper you're using. Many of the paper manufacturers have profiles you can download from their sites. I also found a site that will create a profile, for a fee, if you send them an example of the paper you want profiled.

My problem was that when I selected Print from the Elements Editor, the portion of the Elements print screen titled "Printer Profile" in the "Color Management" section of the screen did not show the specific Epson paper profiles which are:

Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster - SP1400 1410 PLPP
Presentation Paper Matte - SP1400 1410 PQIJ
Premium Photo Paper Semi-gloss - SP1400 1410 PSPP
Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy - SP1400 1410 UPGP
Ultra Premium Presentation Matte - SP1400 1410 UPPM

Since I purchased an Epson printer, Epson ink, and Epson paper I was determined I was going to use the Epson profiles for their paper products. I spent about 2 hours on the phone with Epson Help in the Philippines - to no avail. I called Adobe to only learn they no longer support Elements 6. I spent hours and hours on the internet, searching both Epson and Adobe Elements, trying to find a solution to my problem. I finally found an Epson user group on Yahoo and posted my problem. I received a response - applied the suggested fix and OMG, the problem is solved!

Along the way I came across a site containing a paper that helped me better understand "color management" and the relationship of color management related to the camera, the computer monitor/screen, the photo editing software (Adobe Elements), and the printer. Along the way in my internet search, I read a number of posts from people using Elements 7 or 8 for whom the ICC profiles for their Epson printers would appear in the Elements 6 print screen but not in the Elements 7 or 8 print screen. Go tell ...... one of the mysteries of man that the profiles would load in their Elements 6 and not mine!

Anyhow, here is the fix:

My Epson driver profiles (the SP1400 1410 *** file names listed above) were loaded in:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\spool\drivers\color

I copied the eight files (mentioned above) to:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles\Recommended

and now I can select the specific paper profile for the type of Epson paper I'm using.

I hope this helps anyone having the same problem.

Hi Rosemary, I'm glad you found my "Opus" helpful. I thought that if someone had the same problem I had, I wanted to share ALL the info I had and the fix.

The manufacturer of the paper you use should have profile drivers for download. I buy my Epson paper online at Atlex.com. They have a page on their website with links to different manufacturers at: http://www.atlex.com..._hahnemuhle.htm

If you don't use any of the papers listed on their website, I'd Google the manufacturer and search its site for the correct profile for the specific paper you're using.

Hi Rosemary, just wanted to let you know I've been trying to print cardstock with the Epson Stylus Photo 1400. I'm using American Craft 80lb textured solid core cardstock. The color was just awful (the colors were rather muddy and not clear and bright - nothing like printing on Epson coated photo papers. I've searched the Epson site and internet and couldn't find any real info. When I go to the print page in Elements and select the Epson 1400, there are a lot of ICC profiles in addition to the Epson profiles for Epson coated photo paper. I've tested 3 profiles that I do have and they are:

Japan Color 2001 Uncoated, Uncoated FOGRA29 (ISO 12647-2:2004), and Euroscale Uncoated v2. Out of the many ICC profiles that come up, these are the 3 with the word "uncoated" in them. The tests using these profiles all looked better than trying to use an Epson profile for a coated paper.

Oh wow, that's good to know... I've found a stone paper that my bil told me about and it's kind of cool...it's made from stone, kind of cool.....and I've got another semi gloss he recommended, but I haven't tried different ICC files for them... just got the paper so haven't really used it yet. I'll let you know how it works, but it might not be until April, I've got a lot going on right now...... I still love my ILFORD paper so much for regular photos.

Hi Susie,

thank you so much for your 'quick fix' for loading profiles into Elements 8. I bought a second hand Epson Stylus 1400 last week and did an internet search for how to get profiles onto elements 8. This forum popped up with your concise instructions. As you say it will save me days of head scratching. May never come back to this site again but just wanted to say thanks!!
