Google Books has a lot of free books. They are all classics with expired copyrights.

I agree, Sara. I had fought against it, but we finally decided to get one for each of us, and after researching it, we went with the Nook. I think the thing that sold us is that you can "lend" books. So, we can lend each other the books and not have to swap the Nooks back and forth, since we read a lot of the same books.

B&N has a lot of free ones too. And I get e-mails from them offering specials on e-books. I have bought several books at temporarily discounted prices.

You can convert any pdf book for a Kindle - there is a way to do it yourself or you can email it to Amazon and they will do it for a small fee. There are also some other formats that the Kindle can read or that Amazon has linked. (Warning: some of them are done by amateur volunteers typing them out - you lose any illustrations and cope with typos.)
There is a free book for the Kindle that is all about finding free books for Kindle. (I love that!lol)
I forget who said it, but that whole "it's midnight in the motel and I just finished my last book, lets shop and get a new book in minutes" part was a big seller for me. Even at home, its handy! Just last night I finished the paper copy of the first book of a series, and was able to start the next book right away.

Now that's a good bit of info - I am thinking of going for the Nook now instead of the Kindle although I voted for Lightroom because I do use it a lot - and when I read I want that book in my hands - it brings the feeling of what I'm reading into my hands somehow, but I suppose I could get that same feeling with a Nook - by the way, what is the cost for downloading a book? And since with Nook, one doesn't have to use Amazon, so where do you find books to download for that? AND, who makes the Nook? Is it as lightweight as the Kindle? Sorry, so many questions, but I really haven't done much research on these cause right now I don't dare bring up something else electronic that I need! But I do WANT! I am a huge reader - read anything I can get my hands on but do have my favs and think I might read even more with one of these thingy's - anyone else suggest a Nook over a Kindle? And since I'm a Mac person, does it matter one way or the other which I get? Mother's Day is coming up - Tee-Hee

You don't have to shoot in RAW to use Lightroom. I've used Lightroom with pictures I took on my P&S and they are jpegs.

The Nook is made by Barnes and Nobles. They have an ebook store at their website and you can also buy them on the Nook just like the Kindle can from Amazon.

So where am I in my decision?
I'm thinking I'm going to go with both eventually. Bobbie (bjc) made a good argument about Lightroom and the way it stores what edits you make to your photos. Laurie (Laurie in PA) with her Kindle and Kay (kayoft) with her Nook let me play with each of them. And while I prefer the Kindle's feel and buttons, the Nook wins out because of the sharing books and the "not only Nook books".
It may take me longer to save up for these two "toys", but I think it'll be worth the wait.

I ordered Lightroom 3 yesterday.
As I see more and more ebook readers coming out on the market, I decided to wait. Of course, it helps that my mother keeps me in stock of books, as we share the same taste in novels and she buys a lot of books.
That's actually one of things that I was having a hard time about purchasing an e-reader. The lack of sharing books with my mom. I know the Nook has the capability to lend out books, but I'm still trying to convince my mom that we both need to get a Nook to take advantage of this feature. Mom's got her sights on the iPad, though.

I can't wait for him to see it. He's so jealous of my iPad because I use it constantly.

I have dual boot with my micro SD. I can use the original Nook or switch to Android. Best of both worlds. I can read ebooks in many formats, watch movies, I have my Bible program on it with several books, a few games, Magazine reader, Kindle app.... the list goes on. I've really enjoyed it.
