scrapmamie
Does anyone have the windows 7, I was told you can organize your kits in the library, that it was a new feature. But, I can't figure the library out. I don't know if I'm in my documents or under the library. I promised myself I would organize on my new computer before I bought any more new kits. Or tell me if you think this is a good idea. Leave my kits together-then make files for paper, ribbons, buttons etc. and copy and paste each item from the kit to the proper file. When I do my layouts it takes me forever to find what I want , cause I like to take different things from different kits. I use dip, I purchased adobe photoshop elements/premiere elements maybe someday I will get it figure out. But first I would like to get organized. Any help or advice is appreciated. MLLatscrapgirls
I have Windows 7 and I am still exploring the different parts, like the libraries. I do have the Windows 7 for Dummies book, so I will go find it and look to see what it says about moving files in the libraries. However, you can use Picasa with Windows 7 to organize your supplies without needing to duplicate your files. Even without tagging, Picasa can show you all of your papers, say, or find all of your staples (I tend to scrap that way too.) I don't know about DIP, but you can open an item directly from Picasa into PSE. Picasa can also pull things up by color, not just by type. Scrapgirls files are very easy to use this way. And you are very smart to get organized first! But don't deprive yourself of boutique shopping in the interim - anything you want can go into your Kaboodle list (there is a button on each item's page.) Then you can treat yourself when you get it set up the way you like. I can't find the book! Will go on searching for it and try to give you an answer on the whole library thing. LisaL
The problem I have found for me is you cannot tag PNG files in W7 and you have to tag. Picasa is what I recently added after reading the thread about it on here. It seems to be a much better option so far...
JenniferZ
You can tag in Windows Photo Gallery in Win7, but you have to download WPG from microsoft's website. For whatever reason, WPG is not included with the platform, as it was in previous versions. However, it is free from Microsoft's site.
Pab
To find out about libraries in Windows 7 just go to help and support and type in Libraries, or at least that's where I found info on it. I just haven't spent any time checking it out yet. But I did see it in there....
LisaL
Jennifer - I DL'd that and tried using it before I did Picasa and every single time I tried to use it - it would freeze my computer. So I gave up..then along came Picasa and I haven't tried again!

So I gave up..then along came Picasa and I haven't tried again! Oh, no! That's not helpful...I haven't tagged or organized my supplies in a LOOOOOONG time! I just downloaded Picasa because of all the stuff I've read on the MB here. Hope it motivates me to organize! LOL
BarbaraC1977
Just to clarify...you can tag PNGs in any operating system. If you MOVE the file while outside the application used for tagging, the tags are lost, as they are NOT stored inside the file. The tags are stored in a semi-hidden database for THAT application only.
Pab
Here's an explanation of Libraries I found in Windows Help and Support Libraries are where you go to manage your documents, music, pictures, and other files. You can browse your files the same way you would in a folder, or you can view your files arranged by properties like date, type, and author. In some ways, a library is similar to a folder. For example, when you open a library, you'll see one or more files. However, unlike a folder, a library gathers files that are stored in several locations. This is a subtle, but important, difference. Libraries don't actually store your items. They monitor folders that contain your items, and let you access and arrange the items in different ways. For instance, if you have music files in folders on your hard disk and on an external drive, you can access all of your music files at once using the Music library. AggieB
I got windows7 in December and am still finding out about the libraries. It is nice to be able to organize a bunch of folders there. I haven't tried it, but there is a place to add some tags in the library. Has anyone tried this?
LisaL
Barbara - If I can I sure can't figure out how. When I have a jpeg selected there is a place to add tags at the bottom. That option is not there on png files. I looked on line and found somewhere that for PNG it was considered changing the metadata (or something) to tag png files and therefore not allowed. It is ok though...Picasa is working beautifully!
BarbaraC1977
Lisa, you're exactly right--I think I made a comment that was very unclear. Let me try again. You cannot tag a PNG directly in Windows XP either. When you tag it in Picasa, you're really saying "Picasa, please store this tag for me and treat it as if I actually modified the file's properties." PNGs have no way to retain the tag inside the file structure. So, yes, it works fine in Picasa (or other organizers) in any of the operating systems. No edition of Windows or any other operating systems can do it on their own; Picasa's features work in any of these to make it seem as if the PNG itself is tagged. When you move a file _inside_ Picasa, it can track it and retain the tag information for the file. If you go outside to your folders and move the file, Picasa has no way to "know" this, and so it loses the tags. Sorry for not being clear the first time. scrapmamie
In the libraries are there any files that are not in your library. What do you really want in your public library, just things that you want to share in e-mails. Thanks for everyone trying to help me. I'm going to go check the wish list out later, because I have been writing them down on paper.
