Garden_Girl
OK so I was going through my camera case looking for my extra batteries and found a Lens Hood still in the original plastic. (I had to look in my manual to see what it was. He he!) I've never used this before and wanted to know . . . when would I stick this little thing on my camera? I know that it's to help glare, but well, that's about it. Thanks again for helping out a photo newbie!!!
DaveUK
Hi Ana Lee! Stick the hood on the lens and use it all the time, thats what I do!. You should be able to "reverse" the hood to store it on the camera when its not in use. You are right, the hood prevents glare from outside the lens edges from "flaring" across the lens (unless you WANT flare in your picture! lol). It can also help with keeping rain off the lens when its showery!
Sarah in VA
And it protects your lens from accidental knocking up against things.
MaryJo
I keep my lens hood on all the time. Never take it off. It has saved my lens at least twice so far. Its a tool that we all should invest in at some point! Dave pointed out some excellent uses for them

Wendee-CreativeSparkle
I only keep mine ready to use when it's sunny. I've found it gets in the way of taking off my lens cap and when it's reversed it slows me down on adjusting my focus rings. Maybe I just need to play with it more though.
