I thought it might be fun to have an ongoing message thread where we post what we did to exercise each day. It could be anything from jogging to scrubbing your kitchen floor or anything else that you did over and above your normal daily routine.

Share your progress and lets encourage each other on our journey toward becoming and staying physically fit.

:ola:

I haven't done my exercising yet today, but yesterday morning I woke up early and walked/jogged 3.7 miles. I haven't planned todays activities yet, but will post my progress later. ttfn

Since my cleaning lady decided a few months ago NOT to show up anymore, I've had to take on the task of cleaning this 9000+ sq ft. monster myself. Yesterday I cleaned my ENTIRE main floor. It took me 5 hours! But it felt good and now the place looks great! Two more floors to go...but perhaps another day!

I think that while I was tired of doing my normal exercise routines the other day, I longed to do something more that would be lots of fun as well as give me a bit of a work out. Ha! It was too fun! My dd's and I set up the V-ball net and we went to town playing volleyball and badminton. My dd wasn't showing me any mercy what-so-ever and my arms were quite sore after playing two games. Then as they ran around and played with water, I sat there watching in a chair as I thought about how fun it really was as well as how old I must be to feel as tired as I was feeling, lol.

Then when dh got home, he and I played a game of v-ball and he too had no mercy. Chasing the ball was a bit fun as we teased one another about who would win. By the time we got to 10 points, I was pretty much a goner. My arms that were still sore were now on fire. When the score was 13 to 12, dh's serve, I jumped up to spike the ball and was immediately doubled over.

It literally felt as if the muscles in my stomach had torn. The burning sensation I knew from before was back and I was nearly in tears. When dh came over to make sure I was okay, I thought to myself "if only I'd listened to the doctors who did surgery on my stomach, cutting through the very muscles that were now burning not even a yr before." While I was cleared to go back to exercising a few months after the last surgery, I was told to keep it light and not to over do it. I knew I had over done it alright. The muscles were pulled and it is the worst of pain. Dh and I both agreed to end the game and ended up calling the doctor.

The muscles have never healed correctly since the last surgery, causing them to pull as well as that burning sensation I felt. I was given muscle relaxers to try and help relax the muscles enough to get through the weekend. I was told not to be up and about and no more exercising for a while, a long while as the doctor put it.

Today I feel great! My stomach doesn't hurt anymore but is still tender in one area. The doctors are keeping a close eye on it now and while I am not playing volleyball again any time soon, I still say it was the best! LOL

Just want to give you all a reminder.....Don't Over Do It! ;)

Wow, that sounds really painful Valerie. I'm glad you're not as sore today.

Great work Theresa.

I've got to get moving here. I need a brain rest anyway.

Okey dokey!

I've lost 23 lbs since my birthday (May 18) - mainly due to cycling! Yay! Only about 30 more to go! :toot:

I started at 200, am now at 177, goal is 145.

Oh, and I ran 2 miles this morning; a good thing since I didn't get on the bike this afternoon.

How are ya'll doing?

That's awesome Jill! Did you change your diet or just ramp up on the exercise?

I've increased my exercise and changed my diet. I'm loosing slowly, but it's been steady and a life changing experience. I feel much healthier now and have more energy. I can always tell when I feed my body junk. I don't feel as good. So it's a testimony to me how important good food is to help me feel good physically and emotionally.

Friday I didn't go to the gym or jog as I'd planned, but I did haul out the hoses and drag them to the back yard. Then I rinsed out the wading pool and set it up and filled it up. After that I got the kid's water spraying sprinkler thing out and going. After they were done playing I had to bathe my 2yo and change his clothes twice as he kept getting himself wet.

Saturday I did some walking, but nothing really worthy of calling exercise. Today I plan to go on a two mile walk with my Mom when it cools down. I'll post tomorrow about how it went. ttfn

I am not sure if I should be here or not....

I am a recovering anorexic. I have gotten over the majority of my lack of eating behaviors. But I still feel the guilt when I do eat. But I eat anyway, I know I have no choice in that.

But I have decided I need to exercise, as well as eat a more balanced diet.
But I have to be careful that I don't hit my extremes not get caught up in "competition."

The irony is this morning I actually hit the treadmill- 10 min's/.5 mile. Then I pop on and see this thread.

What I am going to do is stick around, and if I see myself getting out of hand, I'll take a break.

So thanks for having me. :)

Saturday we biked 21.5 miles at 15.9 mph, which is my best average speed for a 20 miler so far. Usually it's in the 14 mph range. So I feel great about that!

I am going out of town for business today and tomorrow, so I have to run around the hotel - not as much fun as riding, but I gotta do it!

Have a great morning!

Hey Ladies! 48 minutes on the stationary bike. I feel like a million bucks. Thanks Wendee, for restarting this thread. I really needed a kick in the pants.

This is great! Let's keep it up...

Reading this every day and sharing what we do may help a lot of people get back into a healthier state. Especially me, ;). Must admit I had smores galore last night and while they were so good I knew better, lol. Attempting to make up for it I went on a 2 mile walk early this morning. When we went up to see Mt St Helens I was a bit shocked at how bad I looked in the photo's dh took of me. Definately have to be more strong willed and eat right these days for my own sake. I've also discovered that my hair is falling out, not the normal falling out, but hand fulls at a time. Dr suggested I only eat organic foods and see if that helps. Something about processed foods he said could be the culprit. So giving that a try for a while to see how things go.

Jill, that's wonderful!

I just realized I missed Fairy Princess' question - the biggest change for me was simply increasing the activity level. I have not changed what I eat so much as the portions and when I eat. I used to eat mainly late at night, and now I eat pretty early in the day.

As for my activity level, I used to work 16 hour days, mainly behind the steering wheel of a car or a desk. No time for exercise, so I just didn't. Now I have lots of time for that, plus son and hubby are out there with me on the bikes - I am indeed the luckiest woman on the planet because I know it is so HARD to get out there and do anything when you're doing it on your own.

I am supposed to run tonite, but, frankly, Watertown NY is not a nice place. I will probably do situps and pushups tonite here in the hotel room and call it a day. I won't get home until late tomorrow night, so I guess anything else will be on hold until Wed. Sigh.

You girls are too sweet! Thank you for the support. I have been battling my ED since I was 13. Now I am 38 and my ED is older than most of the girls I met in treatment last year LOL

I was very good on the treadmill today. I tend to think I need to go longer and faster every time I get on, so it is a challenge for me to just "stay the same."
But I did, 10 mins/.51 mi. And I am going to stick to that every day this week.

My other goal is to drink more water. I love water, but I have been running about so much that I am not drinking as much as I should be. So I will try for 3-4 16 oz bottles a day.

Another 48 minutes on the stationary bike today. I had a grapefruit for breakfast and tonight I'll make a salad for me and DH for dinner. I need to drink more water too. I think I'll fill up a water bottle and aim to finish it today.

My goal is to be back into my size 4's by the time my girls start 1st grade in September. I probably need to shed 8-10 lbs...I know i can do it...but it is getting harder to do as I get older...It seems like I hit 40 and suddenly the weight is piling on at an incredible speed. I keep telling DH that it is going to be a brutal winter because my body wants to bulk up. He laughs at me and says it is because I just turned 40...but mark my words...I think it will be a tough winter for everyone...

Wow! I'm so excited this thread is going so well! It sounds like everyone is working hard to be healthy!

faerywings - I'm glad you shared your challenge with us. I think it's good to be aware of your challenges and to find support to encourage you along the way. :)

My challenge is probably an eating disorder too although I've never been diagnosed. In the past I over ate. I wasn't bulemic as I never purged, but I did binge to the point I felt like purging. It started with an abusive marriage and was my coping method. Even though I've been out of that situation for almost 10 years healing and changing is a slow process.

Since about November last year I've been journaling what I eat and watching my calories and fat grams. Not perfectly, but I've improved. That has helped me to manage my portions and make more healthy choices. I find it's really hard for me to stay on track when eating out or eating something I don't know how to add to my journal (it's a computer journal that uses specific portions pre-entered descriptions). I'm still fine tuning that aspect of my "diet". I wish there was another word for making healthy food choices other than diet as that word has so many other meanings.

Even though I'm not loosing fast, I've come a long way and am trying to avoid extremes. I want to loose this weight so badly, but I didn't gain it all at once and I keep reminding myself that it will come off gradually if I stick to my healthy plan, and it has been. My daughter asked me the other day if I'd be on this diet for the rest of my life and I told her yes. For me this is a life style change not a diet.

Sunday I didn't end up going on my walk as it was so hot and I got distracted watching a movie. Then it was time for me to get my kids home and to bed. Yesterday I played catcher for our family softball team and it was a good workout, much more so than my usual position of right field. Our game was at 8:00 so at least it was a bit cooler, but man it was sill hot! Today I'm going to the gym in just over half an hour, so I've got to get my kids ready to go. ttfn

Keep up the great work!

Well, at the gym today I kept my heart rate at about 142 for 45 mins on the eliptical. I was in my gym's new cardio cinnema and it was really cool. Then I walked on the treadmill for about 10 mins to cool down. After that I did some ab work and then stretched. It was a good workout.

thanks girls for this thread!! i can now join in as i'm no longer pregnant. though i know i have to not 'diet' extreme as i am breastfeeding, but i can eat healthy and exercise! although having an almost 2 year old is good exercise, i tend to let him play outside on his own instead of playing with him.
so that is going to change and i am going to try my hardest to eat healthy! my problem is over eating as well..especially with chocolate and ice cream! i can go and eat the whole thing before you know it!! thankfully my DH finished school (teaching) on friday so that he'll be home with me and keep me accountable!!
and i'll also be able to leave the house and go for a walk without babies in tow!! we are going back to the states in october for my brothers wedding so i've been saying that i'll lose my baby weight plus some so that i can enjoy all the foods and restaurants that i miss!!! he he=)

thanks again!

fPW~ that sounds like and ED to me. Compulsive overeating is commomly seen as the binge w/o the purge, like you said. And when used as a coping method and as a way to "numb" yourself, yes, it is definitley an ed. props to you for overcoming it, and getting out of a bad marriage.

Your workouts are great. And a cardio cinema? Sounds fab!

nelly congrats on the baby! Chocolate and ice cream are two of my favs as wel. I found that Edy's grand light ice cream is just as good as any full fat kind. And they have very yummy flavors. As long as you can keep your portion to a serving size (.5 cup) you are golden. And for choc-- get a really good bar of dark choc. You only need a tiny bit to satisfy yourself. My brother got me a package of dutch choc- each peice is 30 cals, but just one os all I need. *happy sigh*

My workout: treadmill gain-- 10 mins/.53 mi. A bit more more than my agreement with myself on .5.... but still not bad. I had a rough moment on the scale this morning. Yes, Bad FW, no scales every day.... but I can't help it at times! But this was a decent a-ha moment. I felt pretty good. Not fat or bloated. But when I got on the scale, yikes! It was UP! Then I realized that *I felt good* no matter what the scale said. Which-- is a huge thing for me. I am not sure how long that feeling willlast, but I felt it. I owned it for a few minutes- which means, it will come back.

You go Nelly! Welcome back to the exercise world...we are glad you are here with us for some suppot...We need more pics of that baby, by the way!

I'm on the treadmill now. Steve rigged it so that I can walk on here and browse the internet at the same time. How cool is that! I have 20 minutes to go after completing 30. This is great! I'm starting to come back to life. I've been spending so much time at my computer with ScrapGirls, I forgot I had legs! LOL! I think I like this better than the bike, but I'll alternate just to keep myself from getting bored. I want to go to a second hand gym store today to see if I can find a nice step/stair master. I really miss those from my days at the gym.

How are you all doing??

I don't know what is up with me but I am really achey today. I think I need to go to the chiropracter for an adjustment, I'm popping and crackling like rice crispies or something.

Thanks so much for the support and encouragement ladies! It's fun having a common goal and similar interrests!

Way to go faery wings on that ah ha moment. Avoid that scale like mad. I hid mine in my dh's office which he keeps locked most of the time so the kids don't mess with his stuff. I've got a key, but all the extra hoopla of having to go downstairs and unlock the door helps me avoid the scale. I try to weigh about every other week or so. My trainer made me go a more than a month once and I thought I'd go nuts, but I got over the daily thing that way.

Nelly I've got a two year old son too and a four year old daughter and a 12 year old daughter and they're busy. I just wish they'd clean, then my house would be spick and span. Actually my 2yo son and my 4yo daughter enjoy cleaning most of the time. They cry when I don't let them clean the windows or help with dishes and the like. My 12yo daughter on the other hand seems to enjoy making messes, sigh.

I'll be watching my nieces today in about an hour, and I've got a mountain of laundry to fold so I'd better get. I'll post later when I exercise, but I haven't scheduled it yet so I've got to figure that out. ttfn

FPW- I am proud of you- I can't get rid of my scale. I have been told I should do that for years. I just can't. My BF got rid of hers a while back- she has an ed too- and she is doing great w/o it. Maybe someday....
but! No scale for me today! Yay!

My exercise yesterday- on top the the treadmill- food shopping. ugh.
it was much more fun swimming with the kids the day before.

Today, I waled 10 mins/.53 mi
I am also housecleaning. I work for a freind and we clean homes. This house is gi-normous. Over 3 hours for the two of us to clean so that will be good for me for the day.

I have to keep on working on the water. Yesterday I was close- drank 2.5 16 oz. bottles.

? for you all:
Do you belong to gyms or do you work out at home?

Wow you guys are doing great. I feel like I've been slacking because I was out of town.

Yesterday, I did the 18.5 mile Squirrel Hill ride - lots of hills - but went a bit slower- took me about 1 hr 15 min. Today if it doesn't rain, I'll get in 21.5 with a better rate.

Keep up the great work everyone!

I work out at home. I'd like to join a gym but right now, with the kids still kind of "needy" it is impossible. When they are at the stage that they can stay home with out me, than maybe I'll do that. In the meantime, we have a treadmill, and a stationary bike. I'd love to bike outside, but our roads here are anything but safe.

I'm on the treadmill now, in fact...working towards another 50 minutes!

Today, I walked 10 mins/.55 miles. I noticed I "pushed" a bit more today- a bit faster and at an incline. I knew I was going to do that too. Darnit. I went to lunch with my mom and my kids and ended up sahring their ice creamand choc cake for dessert.
The good side is that I am aware that i pushed a bit more, but still held myself in pretty good control- menaing that I didn't stay on past my 10 minutes, nor go well over my .5 mile.

How do you all work out with the heat?

I"m on the treadmill again. We keep our equipment in our basement which can be delightfully cool, but the exercise room is stifling..so we keep a fan in there to circulate the air.

While I'm on the treadmill I can catch up on my tivo's shows. I love the Dog Whisperer. With a new puppy in the house, I'm hoping to become my dogs' pack leader. LOL!

In the meantime, I think I still would like to get a stair stepper. I just have to do some snuggling up to the hubby and convince him to drop $1400. Wish me luck!

well i did some walking yesterday though it was just shopping/walking! but i had borrowed my friends double buggy (the ones that are side-by-side) so that i could go into the city to do some shopping! my plan was to go early (around 9) and be home for about 1!!!

HA HA

noah decided he was hungry at quarter to 9 and then getting everything ready we didn't leave the house till 10. it was a long wait for the bus as we had just missed one!! but we walked and walked stopping only for lunch and to feed noah again. and then we went to the airport instead of home as my SIL was flying in and DH was going to collect her, so i decided to tag along as SIL hasn't seen noah yet!!

so i was out all day and then we had fish and chips for dinner!! oops, not very healthy but oh so good!! but i know i worked my legs as my hips and bum were soar last night!!

nothing today but running around a bit playing skittles with micah...we'll see what next week brings with DH off of work for the summer!! yippee :dancingelephant:

Well, I've been meaning to post, but have been very busy lately. Wednesday I was a slacker, and didn't exercise. Yesterday I cleaned like a maniac and that was my main workout. I hosted a Nail Impressions party for my girls, their friends and moms yesterday. It was fun, but I'm glad it's over! Then last night I took the kids to the park, but I didn't do much there except swing my son.

Today I've been going up and down the stairs doing laundry and I'll be running around most of the day packing and stuff so I don't know if I'll get in offical exercise but I think I'll still get a good workout.

In answer to fw's question I workout at home, outside and at the gym. We have a membership at Gold's gym that includes the daycare, and I love it!

Tomorrow morning we're leaving on vacation early in the morning and I don't know if I'll be able to post for about a week or so, but I hope ya'll keep up the great work! ttfn

I suppose this means me asking you to do 30 miles for me is out of the question then? LOL! My newest of ideas is to get a bike and put a baby seat on the back and then when the kids are in school me and Cola can ride and ride until we can not ride any more. Hopefully, I'll get that back soon enough though, ;). As for the really sore legs, oh how I do not look forward to that, but in reality I know to have any real benefits of cycling in the beginning that I will have to deal with. Hope they aren't sore for long, :)

DH says to add that I'll be whining at him that my legs hurt and will want to be waited on by him, lol!

To have a friend is to have a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold and an extra pair of legs when yours are too weak to stand alone...

I have been living buried in books and writing classes... as an added note I must say that it is rather scary when you start dreaming and all you can see within your dreams is words floating everywhere!
