Funny Grey Box Around Elements

Recommended Posts

I just upgraded from PSE 5 to PSE 6 and I'm having some difficulty. When I add any element with a transparent background to my LO PSE shows a light grey border around the element (where I would normally see the checkerboard transparency on the original PNG file). I think it might be a setting in PSE 6.0 but I cannot find anything about it. Does anyone know how to correct this???? Here is a screen shot to clarify.

See that plus sign in the box on the layers palette? That means it's a smart object. You've probably dragged your flower into your LO UP from the project bin. In PSE 6.0, they made a change which caused that to make the element into a smart object. You can do one of two things; open up the flower in the workspace and drag it ACROSS to your LO (ie you have both open in the workspace). A much better way that you can/should get into the habit of is to go to File>Place and have the element "placed" onto your LO. It will bring your element into your LO at full resolution. This has the added benefit of naming your layer with the name of the file so you don't have to remember what it is.

HTH!

No problem! Your screenshot was a big help and confirmed what I suspected! Good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions!

Sorry, I don't know how I missed that question....I think PSE will "save" your last choices (ie, if you have "constrain proportions" checked, it should stay that way until/unless you uncheck it), but I may be wrong.....
