We had our 20-week ultrasound today and it looks like we're having a baby GIRL!!! :)

We would have been happy with either gender, but it is a little bittersweet that it's NOT a boy. We would have felt the same way if it were a boy and not a girl. So, mothers, how are girls different than boys? Tell me what blessings little daughters are!

We have a name picked out but my husband isn't sure about sharing it quite yet. I'm pretty sure we're set on the name, but who knows what will happen later.

Thank you to everyone who's shared in the joy and journey with us.

I'm so excited for you.
:winking_baby:

I'm a tad jealous. lol Just in that I won't have frilly, flowery, girly layouts to do. (But, yes, I'm thrilled about another baby boy.)

And...I have no clue about little girls. lol

I saw your question about baby movements on FB. Did you see my post this morning? My little guy (I've been calling him Scooter :) ) was moving around so much this morning I could just sit and watch my belly bumping around. What a miracle. God is amazing.

Congratulations on your little, precious girl.

OMG, seriously?! That's awesome! I *think* I've felt a couple thumps from the outside but I'm not positive. I'm sure it's coming soon though. God is amazing! He shows me that every time I think of my little growing girl.

Congratulations on your pink news:) (Of course I would have said the same thing about blue news:)
We've only had blue news in our family so I cannot offer advice about girls either, lol!

How exciting!

We had our daughter first and then our son. They really are different! We were a little lax about getting around to getting "boy" toys when our son got to be around 6 months old (till then we didn't really get him any toys -- we just gave him all of big sister's soft things and rattles, etc.) Well, we did get our daughter a dump trunk and she had a ball lying around the house and do you know that as soon as our son could rootch around and pick his own toys, he GRAVITATED to that truck and that ball! And our daughter never really paid much attention to the tools and trucks we got her (in order for her to be "well-rounded" LOL). She loves pretending with her dolls and doing art projects.

We did the same thing regarding names with both of our kids. We didn't share them with anyone and people got so MAD! It's kind of silly, really. (For people to get mad about this sort of thing...) Anyway, I thought it was important for our children to hear their own names spoken to them before anyone else, so that's why we did it. When they were born, as soon as I could hold them, I whispered their names to them (Adeline Bennett and Kiefer Bennett for those of you who are dying to know! LOL :) ) and then we let everyone else know. I think that my husband even thought this was a bit extreme, but he was too afraid of me in my pregnant, hormone-crazed state to defy me! LOL

But you should do what you want -- it is your experience, so you should call the shots!

Yea for the Girly news! We only have girls. And though they both love dress-up and pushing strollers, one just spent her own money on a Nerf shotgun and is saving up for a remote controlled car and some "real tools". I know there are gender differences out there (we've watched the boys from preschool up to second grade now), and there is something "rough and tumble" built into most of them that our girls didn't come with. But there are also personality differences too. One thing is the same for boys and girls though...if you feed them, water them and love them, they will grow in to the person God would have them to be.

As for names...we were also stingy with the names we picked. No one (not even our parents or sibs or the doctor who was wheeling me to the OR for the C-section) knew the girls' names until they were born. We didn't even decide which girl would have which name until we were on the way to the OR. It is one of my most treasured memories of their delivery: proclaiming their names as each was delivered.

Also so many people have "stories" associated with one name or another. Should our decision on what we want to name our child be critiqued or influenced based on someone else's memory of a 3rd grade bully...I think not. And beside that, knowing the gender of the baby beforehand (and in our case that there would be 2 of them) and what day they'll be born and high-tech ultrasounds that can show you what the faces look like, there are few surprises left for the delivery. We chose to keep that to ourselves...our own little secret together.

Congrats...and welcome to the world of girls! It's a fun place to be (this from a woman who always thought of herself as a mom to boys until the ultrasound showed twin GIRLS!)

Oh Thao that is wonderful! A sweet little baby girl, sounds perfect. Congratulations and I can't wait to hear the name. :D

I got too much feedback on the names we chose for our oldest son, so when our youngest came around we wouldn't tell anyone! lol

We told people what our kids names were as soon as we had decided. We just couldn't keep it in. No one said anything critical to us.

One of the most amazing moments when Molly was born. She was crying and crying so hard at being in this cold and bright world. Bill said, "Hey, Baby Girl." she immediately stopped crying and turned toward him.

Wonderful news, Thao! My son was the firstborn and he was a lot of fun. Then two years later I had a daughter and thoroughly enjoyed all the girl stuff and being a role model for my daughter. You have a lot of fun to look forward to!

Oh how exciting, congratulations!!

I only have girls as well but one of them loves all things blue, etc. The other is too young to tell yet. So far just having little girls has been very sweet and fun though. I love it! :)

Congratulations Thao! Whether it is pink or blue it is a beautiful miracle indeed!!

We have 2 girls and 1 boy. I treasure the memories of dressing up my baby girls in frills and lace. Lots of cutsie florals and ice cream colours. Tights with ruffles on their bottoms, little darling shoes with bells (so cute!!!). Hair accessories, and lots of shoes in every colour. Oh the fun you will have with you precious baby!

Best wishes to you and prayers for a healthy baby, delivery, and momma.

I told you! ;)

We didn't tell anybody our name either, but we hadn't decided for sure. We had some ideas, but Nelly (Eleanor Jane) wasn't actually named until a day or two after she was born! We thought we had a month or two yet to decide....

I wouldn't worry about bittersweetness. This little gal will be everything you never knew you always wanted. And if you have another one, it will be the same with that one, too. :)

CONGRATS!

Congrats, Thao!! I did not have ultrasounds with any of my kids so the name thing just didn't mean anything. Oh, we did tell people names we were considering, but it was different not knowing who the little one was to be.

As for differences in gender...I have three girls, two boys. ALL are different! And of my girls, I have two pink/purple girly girls...and my youngest is a green/brown, give-me-a-hammer type. Gotta love them all!

So happy for you, Thao! I love the clothes for little girls - so much cuter! HOWEVER, boys are MUCH easier (esp as they get older - you can still pick out their clothes for them ;) )

Either way, the journey is going to be amazing....

Congrats Thao! Any baby whether boy or girl is a blessing. I'm lucky to have one of each:) Totally agree with Karina S, the selection of girl clothes are infinitely better and more varied than boy clothes. The thing is- your girl will probably have clothes veto quite early. My boy doesn't care if he's shirtless and just in shorts the entire day . (just like his dad, lol.)I can dress him up in whatever I want. Whereas my girl- well, she picks out what she wants to wear. Hey it will be fun to have a shopping partner when they are older!

Enjoy your pregnancy!

How exciting Thao!

We had a girl and then a boy (five years apart.) As for differences when they are babies, I don't think sex makes a lot of difference. Our son was difficult as a baby (lots of colic and crying) and I've always said if we'd had him first, we might not have tried for a second child. ;) But as the kids grew older, our daughter actually turned out to be the more difficult one. Either sex can be difficult or easy and that probably will change with each new stage. You just love 'em for the precious little beings they are.

congrats and wowie...such fun news..... i am the mother of 3 girls, and now have 2 sil and 1 dgs.... but i would say, as others have said here..the most important thing is that each child is different in tempermant, personality, learning styles etc... with that said i guess you can also say there are some things that are more typical girl and some things that are more typical boys... however, one of my dd who loved to dress only in dresses also loved playing with her masters of the universe people, blocks, and her my little ponys had lots of rides in the trucks and cars we offered as choices of toys...i think the best thing is to not have preconcieved ideas about what each child is or should be...and just enjoy getting to know them.... each age and stage is just so exciting... and i am enjoying it all again now as the grammie, watching my dgs... i think things start to get a bit more gender specific as kids get older but each gender and each stage is still exciting to me.... i also was an early childhood teacher... and enjoyed seeing all the boys loving the dress up... and playing in the kitchen...and the girls building cities with the blocks and the cars and trucks.

i will say though that the girl clothes are still more adorable than the boys...but isnt that the same for us as women...men just wear the same thing year after year... mostly blue, brown, or grey...LOL

again, congrats, feel well and enjoy all the exciting moments

Oh, I'm so happy for you both, Thao! How exciting ... a baby girl!

Well, as the mother of 4 daughters, I am a little biased! (he-he) Yes, there are the darling clothes and the sweet toys, but there is so much more. As a mother, it was wonderful to raise daughters. To teach them just how wonderful being a girl is and later to share with them the joys of being a woman and finally to share as they themselves become mothers. (Side note: Have you ever read Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul by John and Stasi Eldredge? It's wonderful!) In between, there are the special times of cooking together, tea parties, learning to put on make up, buying prom dresses, talking about their latest crushes, sharing heartaches and sharing dreams, watching chick flicks together and finally, becoming adult friends. You never lose your daughter. When she finally grows up and marries, she becomes even closer to you. You'll adore being the mother of a girl.

And, as for your husband -- well, he will be her super hero, her protector, her first love, the person who makes her laugh and giggle and the first man who tells her just how beautiful she is. And, no matter how many years pass or how old she is, he will always hold a special place in her heart that no one else can fill ... he will always be her daddy and he will always be her hero. He will love being the father of a lovely daughter.

Finally, the Lord has blessed me with boys (in the way of grandsons) and it is a whole new love affair. I'm learning and loving every day of this new journey. And, of course, you know that I once again have the joy of having a sweet little baby girl in my home as I babysit Adrianna 2 days a week. I am reliving it all and I have missed the baby days so much. God is so good, isn't He?

God bless you both and your sweet baby girl! :winking_baby:
