Board is a bit quiet... so i thought... id like to start a thread on summer time fun.

What do you do? Do you stay home? do you go away?

Any favorite games/ideas you like to share?

How about photo opportunities for the summer?

Our summer break is a little odd because our kids are in year round school and don't have a long summer break like a traditional school year. In fact my kids only have 2 weeks off between this current school year and the start of the next! But they'll get an "off-track" intercession break in August for 3 weeks so we do have some down time during the summer.

My kids are pretty easy to please. They just love to play outside-biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, nerf gun wars, etc. Occasionally we go to the park for a change of scenery. And we have annual passes to a lot of places around the island and usually go hit those spots at least once each time the kids are off track (zoo, Polynesian Cultural Center, Waimea Falls, Wet N Wild Water Park, Bishop Museum, etc)

When in doubt... we head to the beach :)

We have no specific travel plans this summer but I wouldn't be opposed to an island hop as a family over to the Bis Island or Maui :) If we had some extra $$ laying around we'd head to Disneyland. I think my kids are at the perfect age to totally love it now :)

I'm going on a weekend vacation, but that's about it. We spend time at the zoo, the children's museum and the parks. But mostly, we stay in our backyard and use the kiddie pool, sandbox and swingset.

We have four Highland Games we'll be attending between now and the end of September - all of them out of state. Those will primarily be long weekend kind of trips. The end of August DH and I will be going to our favorite lake resort in Iowa for a whole week. We didn't do a real vacation at all last year. I traveled by myself in June to visit my sister then to the Scrap Girls Convention and my sister's funeral in October. The Convention was a short vacation for me. :)

We are taking a family vacation to the beach....we really haven't had a big vacation since having kids, so I think they will love it!

We are fairly busy in the summer....my older son still has baseball for a couple weeks and he is on a swim team which practices and has meets through the end of July. My younger son is taking a couple weeks of swim lessons....much to his displeasure!

In between all that we like to play in the water in the backyard, go to the zoo or nature center, or the swimming hole at the lake. Really, they just like to have downtime in the summer and play with their friends!

I'll be working most of summer, since our staff need their vacations...

I have some concerts to look forward to here in Gothenburg. It started with Green Day yesterday. A big metal festival in two weeks where Rammstein is one of the headlining acts. American singer/pianist Melody Gardot is next in line in July!

My husband and I are going to try to spend some more time at our summerhouse this summer than we've had time for the last 5 or 6 years...

My best friend Sussie and I are planning to start touring Swedish castles, great estates and medieval churches this summer! We're gonna do daytrips when our schedules and weather permits!

Summer will (probably) end with a week's vacation to the island of Rhodes, Greece, at the very end of August with my husband!

Our big vacation will be in Oct this year. We are going on a Mediterranean Cruise. This summer I may go home (to Iowa) for my Grandmother's 95th Birthday. In fact, I think I need to start working on plans for that now. Other than that I will do some hiking (great photo ops) and see a few movies.

If i could keep my kids supplied with water balloons all summer they would be in heaven! We do lots of outdoor activities and go camping quite a bit. Summer is a really fun time around our house and everyone looks forward to it starting!

 No wonder you made a collection with burst water balloons Trish! Oh how fun. We've got years of photos with squirt guns... which would be an awesome add on to your Heat Wave Collection...I'm talkin' 'bout the big squirt guns.

Our family camping trip will take us to a beach this year...and I'm thinking salt water instead of Great Lakes for once (I was born in NJ and MISS the shore!! DH is a Hoosier and only knows LAKES.)

The other biggie is the 4-H fair in July. The family may be running a 5K or two together also.

My little ones are really into parks/playgrounds and bubbles right now. And walks in the woods are fun. Anything where they can get OUTSIDE!

On rainy days, we've been enjoying picnics in the living room. Complete with a blanket on the floor. My preschooler especially thinks this is great fun!

We've been to the zoo already, and plan on going to Sesame Place this week.
