I was just wondering if there are any other grandparents out there their raising grandchilden? We are raising our granddaughter and with the help of family and church. Still, I have questions and experiences to share. So if you are raising your grandchild or were raised by a grandparent, or want to share here please do

I'll start:
She calls us granny and poppa, we are finishing up a remodel on our home that adds a room just for her. Tomorrow we put up the last 2 shelves for her special things; then it's finished! It's a beach cottage look with white, seafoam blue/green and a gorgeous Ty Pennington comforter that we based all the colors from. I can't wait for the "reveal" and pictures and scrapbook it!
She's done extremely well in school, but the pressure from classmates can be so overwhelming even at her young age. So, we look to the bible and God for guidance. We can't protect her from everything, or even most things. But we try to give her a foundation which she can always return to, and pray alot!

God bless you, Christy! It's a great challenge, I know. While we're not raising our nearly 3 yo GS Dominik, we have him on the weekends. Not nearly the same, I know. But we to take that responsibility seriously and try to instill as much love and protection as we can while he's here. And we have him often enough that we certainly need to tackle discipline issues. And we pray a lot too!

I look forward to hearing more of your story here and through scrapbooking. And I look forward to hearing others' stories as well!

I admire you for taking this challenge on. My father had custody of my niece when she was 2 yrs old. But, she lived with dh and myself. It was a challenge, since we didn't have our own children yet.

The room sounds gorgeous! I hope you scrap the reveal and other photos you take. I'd love to see it!

I'm not raising my grandchildren, though they and their parents have lived in my home for the last 4 years so we are together daily. They also spend at least one weekend a month with their other grandparents. I'm hoping that by being with me, I can pass on some of my values and "wisdom" but I don't have the main responsibility for raising them. One thing I've learned over the last few years is that firm limits, enforced lovingly is absolutely vital. And I also have to support their parent's limits and values. Sometimes that's very difficult and but often very rewarding. There are so many youngsters out there who look to extended family for their love and support, but children will be children and won't always be grateful until later when they are more mature. You are doing what needs to be done, raising your granddaughter with love and faith. These family relationships are complicated, but with your approach, long run rewards will be great.

My in-laws are in the same boat as you, Sandi. It can be tough all around, I think, but the kids' well-being is SOOO worth it! :)

Best of luck, Christy, and I'd love to see the room, too!

Here's her first LO of her room! This has been such a wonderful experience, creating a room from scratch and then doing the lo. She had so much fun and is learning faster than me. Guess she'll be digiscrapping on the HP while I use the dell.

Christy I applaud you for doing what you are doing - she is a lucky little girl to have you there for her - wondering how long you have had her? We were a foster family for over 20 years - not quite the same as having my own grandchild in my home - but I can tell you that I loved each and every one of them dearly - and I think you are doing a really great thing for your granddaughter. There are surely angel wings waiting for you in heaven. God bless You.

I cannot even come close to what you have accomplished and the lives you have touched as a foster family. What a courageous and compassionate woman you are and how wonderful for each one of those children who passed through your doors. It is a scary time for a child when they go into a new home, especially since there is usually a traumatic event that catapults them there. I know you must have been wonderful comfort and soothing balm to their little souls. God bless You too!
