I finally found a Canon XSi, new, in the box, from a well-known retailer and bought it today. I had to travel to Lincoln (about 50 miles) to get it, but for me, it was worth the trip to get the camera I wanted. I'm so excited!!! I'm anxiously waiting for the battery to fully charge and reading through the Getting Started Guide.

Congratulations on you new camera Pat! You will love it! I've had an XSi for a about a year now and it is awesome! I also bought the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/450D for Dummies book by Julie Adair King and it's fantastic. I have a Canon XSi training video which is real good too. Let me know if you need info about it and I'll get it for you. We'll be looking forward to seeing some of your layouts soon.

I had so planned to go out to take pics with the new camera today but it just didn't happen. I did go to Borders and bought the Dummies book for this camera. I've snapped a few pics so far but just on Auto at this point. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to get out and do some serious playing.

Pat, I had to buy same book - it helped me out a lot - mostly I play around with my new cameras and discover things on my own but with the one you have which is the same one I have I needed a little bit of help with it and that book really did help me out. Good luck! Happy shooting!

If only we could take a day off once a week just to play with our cameras and learn!
Besides life getting in the way of camera practice, I also have mine securely stored in a camera bag on a high shelf -- out of reach of little hands -- so it's not as easy to grab for spur of the moment shots.
I'm thinking I need to make myself a schedule with time dedicated to "camera study."

Guess I'm like everyone else here - wondering how you are doing with that new camera. It is hard to find time to just play with our cameras - I carry one in my bag all the time (my little point and shoot) and probably capture more with that one than my camera like yours simply because I can't possibly just carry it around with me all the time but I need to find some time to just dedicate "camera time" and get out there and do nothing but shoot, shoot, shoot.
