There are several principles, or "rules" of design that when used effectively allow for pleasing designs. Most designers instinctively know these and don’t think too much about them, but some of us are “design-impaired” and need a little help! We’re going to focus on one of the principles, UNITY. When unity is achieved, all the individual parts come together to form a whole.

There a different ways to achieve unity. One is by REPETITION. So for your challenge…

Repeat an element, texture, shape, etc several times. For example, use tons of buttons! Or repeat a piece of ric rac over and over. Or use a brush in a repetitive manner! While repetition can create unity and interest, don’t overdo it! That can be boring! Try to find a way to keep things interesting by varying your repeated elements just slightly, and don’t let it overpower your page.

Hope you have fun with this and be sure to show us your layouts! :breakdance:

Here's one of my layouts that uses repetition: http://scrapgirls.com.ipbhost.com/index.ph...cmd=si&img=9297

Sounds like a fun challenge to me. Love your layout, that face is too darling not to scrap repetitively, :).

To have a friend is to have a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold and an extra pair of legs when yours are too weak to stand alone...

I have been living buried in books and writing classes... as an added note I must say that it is rather scary when you start dreaming and all you can see within your dreams is words floating everywhere!

What a cutie- your daughter is a sweetheart! Fun LO!

And in the "it was meant to be" column, I started on a LO Sunday and found out about this challenge yesterday. A perfect fit. So I finished it last night and posted it today. :disappearing-smilie:

Spec ed - Well, there will be a new challenge up on the 15th, so before then would be good! But feel free to do old challenges too!

Marnie - Great layout! Love all the circles! And nice job on the papers and elements.

Okay, while I did this layout without thinking of repitition, (the kit used is one of my most favorites so I was having some more fun with it), this is how it ended up. :)

I'm not sure if this is what I was supposed to do (or what you were looking for) .... Not sure if I accomplished "unity" through repetition, but I tried. ;0)

here it goes anyways!!!

I have repetition in the flowers, the tags as well as the simple 2 color scheme.

Here is another layout using repetition. I would appreciate some feedback because I'm not too sure if the page looks TOO busy, too dark, or if it is an effective use of repetition.

I'm also trying to go outside my comfort zone and "cut/crop" my pictures into circles - rather than my usual rectangles and squares.

I read this challange at the beginning of the month but didn't really do anything with it. I guess the idea of repetition was with my when I did this one the other day! I've repeated the stars motif.
