I have been working on this layout for a while. I love the pictures and thought the motion film frames would really be cute with them. I love the papers, I really like the chalk/chalkboard look of the stars and "happy" brush instead of using papers there.
But I always want glitter and sparkles in everything! Is is appropriate here with a masculine theme?
Does the heading need deleting?
How would I journal the 'sharing of the fritos' within this lo?
Should I just ditch and start over?

Thanks in advance! Be brutal, be gentle, :gathering: I need help!lol I'm no longer brand new but I don't want to be getting into horrible :hit-head-with-hammer: habits.

I wish I could answer all of your questions but I run into the same ones - I want this, I want that, should this be deleted or does it belong.......it will come to you - in the middle of the night and then you'll have to get up and work on it right away! :giggle_bear: :giggle_bear: Happens to me all the time - my best layouts (of which there have been NONE lately) always work best when I can't sleep! Good luck - I know it will be wonderful when you figure it out. Wish I could be of more help.

oh i like it though christy.

once you add shadows alot of your layout will look much better to you.

Star glitter i think is great for a "masculine" layout!

Now for journaling.. hmm. You could utilize that "grey" mask area above and below with a single line journaling on top and bottom of the strip. Or you can Move your title to the cluster of elements ont he left, then add a block of paper of some sort to the cluster on the bottom right and do your journaling there.

I think you have a great layout so far!

Thanks! When I go to save my lo as jpeg I have to compress it to a "medium" between 6-8 in order to upload to SG, when I do that and upload it all the shadows and neat effects don't show up! I'm going to try the journaling tips and get back with you on that. It's really wonderful to have friends to offer advice and tips!

Isn't it great that someone always comes along with the answers - or at least a clue to get us moving!

I like it a lot. You should let it sit for a day or so & I think you will find that it really is a great layout. In my opinion, the masculine colors balance the sparkles & they do fit the happy theme. The gray brushwork looks really nice. I think there was a discussion on the shadows disappearing earlier in the summer. Have you posted a query on that?

I think it looks good & I agree as far as the glitter on the stars or a swirlie here & there for a masculine layout.

Me too, I think it looks good. I agree with letting it sit overnight, fresh eyes are always helpful. :happy014:

For uploading a layout to sg.. this is the best way to do it.

you have your psd file open, save it as a jpg (at 10-12) for full size and printing.

then open the jpg you saved and resize it to 600x600 (or largest side 600) and 72 dpi(ppi) then save it as another name (usually i add _web to the end of it)

The use that web jpg to upload to sg! That retains all your neat shadows etc and we can see everything very well.

i cant wat to see your next version, let us know what the changes look like and if you like it or want more help!

Christy, I think the layout is lovely, and I don't think the stars or glittery effect are anything but delightful. My only suggestion, and it's tiny, is that it looks like this is a double-page layout. I'd resize the film strip and photos just a little smaller and shift it left or right to avoid splitting your lovely photo across the page break. That will also make the balance a little more interesting, and you may either be pleased as is, or move an embellishment or subtitle to the opened up space.

I already love it, though, so no worries!

How can you tell it's a double layout? Ok, well I guess looking at the image size :blondmoment: to begin with might help. But what after I have resized it to 600x600? Will it still open up to a dbl lo? Thanks!

Christy, you can resize to 600 pixels wide, but do keep the layout in proportion. It won't be 600x600, but more like 350-400 high x 600 wide for the web upload size; guessing based on the above image.

Why do I think it's a double layout? It looks like a double layout to me because it's more "horizontal" than the 8.5x11 landscape layouts I now do. When I see wide layouts here at SG, they're usually a double-layout of square pages. Did I guess right?

I know I'm new to all this but I love your LO. To me it looks great. Maybe I'll learn to look for the finer detail as I go on. It's all personal preferance I think. By the way I like the heading. The journaling is so important. Kay
