I am sure you guys have talked about this before but my wide format Epson 1800 printer will not pick up the paper anylonger. It's about 7 years oldso I am sure it is time for a new printer. I am not stuck on any brand so I thought I would ask for recommendations. I would like to stay around $500 or less if possible. Any thoughts. BJ

I have that printer and it is a common problem. Look online for ways to clean the paper rollers- that should help with the problem.

I hear the Epson 1900 is pretty good. If you've been happy with the 1800, you might want to just replace it with the current model. I think it is less than $500. Epson also has the Stylus 1400 that is less expensive. There are a few more options out there now. HP has a couple: Photosmart B8550, and the OfficeJet 7000. Both are under $300. I haven't tried them so I can't speak for either but The 7000 seems to have pretty good reviews both on their site and on other sites as well.

I have the HP Photosmart B8550 and I love it. It prints out great photos and layouts. I paid only $125 for it on special, but I know it runs about $200 normal price. But check around you never know when there is a special on it.

Thanks to all of you. Great suggestions. Unfortunately I have cleaned the rollers and that worked for a short while but I will absolutely try that again before I buy. Hate to get rid of my workhorse, or as my younger son once called it, my printer on steroids!! I will look up those other ones right now. Ordinarily I would have time to do lots of research but I need to print placecards on 12x12 purple cardstock for my older son's wedding on Sept. 16th. Thus the rush! Thanks again for the tips and the hints. BJ

Got it working!! Cleaned it like April Showers suggested but with the cleaning paper sideways. Then rebooted and it is working. Since I don't trust it, I am saving all the suggested printers. Thanks, ladies, I appreciate the help! BJ

Just got the Epson 2880 and with the rebate came in under $500. the 1900 was my second choice, but the reason I chose the 2880 was that the 1900 is super-duper, the best there is for glossy prints, but since I do matte or semi-gloss mostly and do some B&W printing, the 2880 is supposed to be the best for that. Read lots and lots of reviews on both before I made that decision. Epson offers rebates frequently, so watch the Epson site for offers.

What is the cost that each of you end up spending per 12x12 print? I am going back and forth about this printer issue myself. Can't determine if it is more economical to just order prints when I need them or go with a printer, all the extra ink, and special size paper. Thoughts?

Great question. I haven't had mine long enough to really calculate that. Hope someone else has some idea. I think I read that somewhere on the Epson site I think, but don't remember. I don't really print my LOs in 12x12. I do some larger photo prints and 8x8 LOs as well as the standard photo prints.
