I spent some time reading the thread called Why Should I Switch. Well, after reading Ro's explanation as to why SG doesn't support DIP, to include Microsoft no longer supporting it, its time for me to switch. The fact that the quality is not good and one can tell its a DIP created layout based upon poor quality, (I'm sorry to my Swap Crop Partner) I didn't know that. I have PSE5 and I also have Ro's Scrapbook Secrets for PSE5. What I want to know is what else do I need in the way of tutorials, since I plan to spend tonight beginning my new journey. The thought of giving someone something substandard is not something I want to continue to do. I am also creating a wedding album and now I am going to need to recreate it in PSE so the printing and quality is acceptable.

Would someone please let me know what other package I might need for this journey and classes also if there are any for complete novices for the PSE programs. Thank you, Hugs, donna

Hi Donna! Congratulations on converting to PSE5! That's what software I use, and I love it. If you have Ro's Scrapbooking Secrets videos for PSE5, that will be a great place to start! Do you also have the MORE Scrapbooking Secrets videos? Once you watch the videos, the best thing to do is just play around in the program and experiment. Push buttons and see what they do. You can also browse the Photoshop Elements section of the message board and read other users' problems and successes. And don't be afraid to ask questions if you have any.

Have fun playing with your new program. I look forward to seeing the layouts you create with this new "toy"

You might also want to check in the University, there are some great PSE specific tutorials there. Here is a link HTH :)

Tiza, thank you so much for responding so quickly. I am anxious to begin. I don't have the More Scrapbooking Secrets and will go right over and order it. I will check the forum section for answers to my questions before posting as I don't want to create redundancy. thanks again so very much, donna

There is so much to learn that I'm still learning new things about PSE5! I think the best way to learn is to play with it, without fear of making mistakes. There's always Cntrl-Z (undo). Most days I come across information/tips/tutorials about using PSE too. Another place to look for How To articles is the Scrapgirls newsletter!

Happy scrapping!

I love PSE5! I refused to upgrade to 6 or 7 because it seemed like the "upgrades" were really downgrades. Janine Buckles, the lovely and talented layout team artist, uses it too. So you're in good company. I've been using it since it first came out and I'm still learning new things it will do.
Anna Mansfield teaches a number of classes for PSE that show you some advanced tricks of things you wouldn't expect PSE to do. After you feel comfortable with Ro's Secrets and More Secrets, check out the on-line classes.
The best thing you can do is play with it and try new things. And don't hesitate to ask questions - trust me, others out there are wondering the same thing, and they'll all be glad you asked. I can't tell you how many times I've learned a cool trick from someone else's question. Just remember - it's supposed to be fun, so if it isn't, take a break!
:)

There are also lots of specific technique tutorials for PSE in the University section; I'm sure you'll find these helpful, too, as you're ready.

You are going to love it! PSE 5 is awesome. Your only question is going to be, "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

I would recommend going online and searching for a list of PSE5 shortcuts. I have one printed out and sitting on my desk for quick reference...but I forget where I found it. Every little shortcut you can use (like Ctrl-Z for undo) will save time and effort!

Thank you to everyone for all your tips and advice. Here sit my discs and I have yet to be able to give them time. It looks like I won't until early September. My daughter and grandson left Saturday, my son, dil and granddaughter are arriving tomorrow night around 10, driving in from CT. So off to post this crazy week and then upstairs to finish up the bedroom and then back to the gallery. Thank you again, I can hardly wait to begin. Ro I have viewed them a long while back and I know with your tutor, and fantastic instructions it will be just a matter of time before DIP is archived forever in the round file. Tiza I will do a search tonight and print out the shortcuts.
Hugs, donna
