Printer Error 5100 Do I need to get it serviced?

The other day the unthinkable happened. I was printing out a layout and the paper jammed! So in the heat of the moment I removed the jammed paper without turning it off and now I'm getting this 5100 error. It won't finish printing a page without coming up with this error message. Now I'm just beside myself. I don't even know where to take it to get fixed. I think it has to do with the white ribbon thing, but, ???? My printer is a Canon Pixma MP610.

I know we live in a throw away world and at times it less expensive to buy a new one than get it fixed, but I love this printer, and I'm crippled without it as I use it a lot for school also.

What do you think????

Have you tried deleted the process that you have started, then start it again, from the page that got damaged?

My play tools are: CS5.5, PSE9; PRE9; PSPX2, on a Laptop PC, with Win7

Sometimes it helps when my printer goes wonky to unplug it and let it sit a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. You might try that if you haven't already. By the way, wonky is a technical term.

My "wonky" problems have been fixing themselves for the most part, but it's not back to normal yet and quality is ppppth!!. A little frustrating. The worst part is that I love this printer and have been so pleased with it until now. I turned to the "Geek Squad" and asked them about getting it fixed and basically what it comes down to is that it would cost less to get a whole new printer than to just fix the one I have. He said that the life of a printer like this is 18months to 2 years! Really!!! What a throw away world we live in! Humph. Now to look for a new printer.

So, my five year old printer must be ancient. Still prints wonderfully though. Not too fond of things that expensive being considered disposable either.

Hi AnaLee!

Have you tried looking through the "menu" options on the printer? Look for an entry called "maintenance" or similar. In that menu it should have an option to reset the machine back to its Factory Settings (how it was when it was first purchased). That may get around the problem for you. Sorry if this is a late response, but I've been away for a while on vacation.
