Installing Brushes In Psp X2

Hello!

 

I have purchased several brush sets and can't figure out how to install them in the My PSP Files so that they can be opened from the Brush Tool. The files are installed as JPEG files, not PNGs. Does anyone have any idea how to correct this?

.jbr files are usually used in the brushes file. If you go to documents/mypsp/brushes, you'll see the files. That's where you put your .jbr files. Png and jpg files can be dragged into the program and used as a layer. If there's a way to change them that they will work in the brushes folder, I'm not sure how. I know that you can save a png as a jpg and have a white background, but don't think that would suit the the puspose of a brush and as I said previously, brushes are .jbr files and there should be a .jbr file in you brush download.

 

 

If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will come along and correct my info. If nothing else, I'll be bumping this post so that someone else will see it. :-)

The brushes I purchased came as .png downloads. I don't think I can save the brushes as .jbr files as that's not an option in PSP. I was trying to load them in the My Documents/My Files/Brushes as suggested in a PSP tutorial.

I have brushes from SG's and although there are png files that can be used in layers, there was also a .jbr file that was to be put into the brushes folder of PSP. What is the name of the brushes that you purchased? Perhaps we can get some more information about the brushes with that. :-)

I purchased BMU_BurshSet_Swirlicious. I also received VRA_Brush_BorderingOnElegant with my most recent purchase. Generally, I have used the brushes as a layer. However, the free set is very difficult to color using the dropper tool because of the faded elements of the brushes.

The .jbr files are not included with the brush sets.

 

In PSP, you could always open the PNG of the brush, and use it to create a brush tip in PSP. That will save it as a brush for later use. You will need to resize the PNG file so the longest side is 999 pixels. Then when you go to the brush menu, click on the bottom right icon that looks like a paint brush in a dotted box. This creates a new brush tip from the current PNG. You can then save the name of the "brush" such as VRA_BorderElegant1. When you go to use the brush tip you just saved, this will be the largest that you can make the brush. If you want it larger, you will need to use the original PNG that came with your purchase.

 

It's been a while since I used PSP, so I hope these directions help. If you get confused, please ask.

Do you have any suggestions as to "coloring" the png file a color other than black so that the faded parts of the brush don't fade?

I'm happy that someone gave you an answer that worked for you. It's been a while since I played with PSP and I have abr files for my brushes, but I may have made them myself and forgot. lol

 

If I understand your colouring question right, you can colour it by choosing a colour with your colour picker, then go to Enhance/Adjust color/Adjust Hue Saturation. A box will pop up. Click on the colorize box, then play with the sliders until you get what you want. I start with the bottom and work my way up.

 

You can also use a style on it or use the paint bucket, but you'll have to play with the settings and opacity because it will lose a lot of it's definition with the paint bucket. HTH's :-)

It's helpful that you added which brushes you purchased. If you purchase any of Lori Cooks the two brush files will be included as Lori creates them with PSP. All the other designers include the .png file so we PSP users can convert them to brush files as already suggested.

 

One thing I will add is that in PSP the largest brush you can have is 999pixles and many of the png files are much larger. You can use the png file as a mask when you want to use the larger brush and maintain the shading. To recolor the png open and duplicate it in PSP, close the original so you don't change it. Choose the selection tool and set to all opaque and click on part of the png in the work space to get the marching ants. Use the paint bucket to fill with the color you choose. The faded elements will no longer be faded.
