How To Make A Template Out Of A Page

Recommended Posts

I am not sure I am in the right area but I'll try out my question here. If I need to post it elsewhere, please let me know.

My son got married in April so I am turning their wedding pictures into digital scrap book pages - so far have 30 done. I also have 2 nieces who are getting married and I want to do the same for them but am not wanting to spend the same amount of time on their pages to make them from scratch. How can I turn the pages I have already done into templates to use on the other weddings so I can just pop the new pictures into the page?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Rebecca. First, could you let us know if you are using a PC or Mac? Also, what program and version are you using - PS, PSE, PSP? There's probably someone here who could help you, but it would be helpful for us to know this first. :)

If you are a Mac user and happen to be using InDesign to do your layouts, you can make a template easily - and of course, you can have a master page which will put all of the same elements or designs on each and every page without having to repeat it page after page. A template in InDesign is easy to make - you can also do a template in Photoshop but it's a little different. Let us know what application you are using.

Rebecca, I think the most important this is whether or not your first album's layouts are still in layers, or have been flattened and saved as a single layer.

If they're still in layers, you can remove the photos, and save as a new document, then add the appropriate pictures. If you want to change the papers, you could select each layer and use it as a clipping mask.

If the images are flattened, then you can try selecting a region, and then create a layer to match, coloring these in shades of gray. Delete or hide the original and save as a new "template" document. Then clip new pictures and papers, etc to the layers.

We can probably assist more if we know what program you're using, and whether the first album is saved as layered files or not. Sorry these instructions are so general.
