Hi Candy. I love my Android phone (Samsung Captivate.) Useful and/or entertaining apps for me listed below. So far, all of these are free.
MyBookDroid: track books by barcode scan or entering ISBN. Classify as "already read, own, want to buy, want to read, etc," plus ratings.
Google SkyMap
BarCodeScanner by ZXing--scan & look up competitive pricing.
Alarm Clock Plus
Reference material such "United States" --the Constitution, and Periodic Table of Elements.
Mobile banking app--if your bank/credit union doesn't have one yet, it will. Deposit checks by taking photo with app.
Church Finder--does what it says, for when you're traveling, by denomination
Mass Readings--daily liturgical scripture readings following Catholic three year cycle of Bible.
Acrobat Reader--for PDF files.
I load the 600 pixel images (could go to 800 for landscape) of all my layouts into the gallery, using a USB connection, so I can always share my pictures. I also load the marketing images for my Scrap Girls supplies, so I can quickly scan what I have.
Hope this helps.

Angry Birds
A rather fun and addictive game that's great when you're stuck waiting somewhere.
