~*Aria*~
Three men go to a hotel and decide to split the cost of a room. Don't ask, I don't know why. Anyway the desk clerk tells them it'll be $30. So each man tosses in a $10-bill. Later that night the clerk realizes the room is actually $25, so he calls the bellhop over and hands him 5-$1-bills and tells him to return the $5 to the men. On the way to the room, the bellhop realizes that the bills won't divide evenly among the three men, so he decides to give each man $1 and keep the remaining $2 for himself, which he does. So each man paid $10 and got $1 back. So each man paid $9, for a total of $27. The bellhop kept $2, for a total of $29. Where did the other dollar go?! I'll share the answer after there has been sufficient frustration.
Heatheranne
It doesn't take me long to frustrated with something like this! I know the answer has to be simple, but I can't think of it - so I'm ready to hear it! roflol Ple-e-e-ase! :-)

Heatheranne
Weird how the math works one way but not the other. They're both true statements but one doesn't add up. :-)

~*Aria*~
Sorry I disappeared. Been INCREDIBLY busy! Anyway Polka was on the right track. The correct room price was $25, the bellhop kept $2, the men got $3 back. The men got $1 back each, so each paid $9, for a total of $27...plus the $2 the bellhop kept? But wait! That $27 includes what the bellhop kept! It should be that $27 plus the dollar they got back. So the $2 was added twice!
Heatheranne
roflol Dot's explaination is easiest to understand! I accept that the whole thing is confusing because it's a play one words. The math is sound. :-)
