I do this often. I use PSPX so not sure if steps would be exact or not... I open the paper I want and resize to the size I want. Then I do a text layer on top of that. The size of the font will depend on the font style - I try to use a thicker, blockier style. Once you have your text on top of the paper, simply use the selection tool to select the text (text should be in a dark colour or light, depending on your paper), being careful to not select the "holes" in the letters. Once you see the marching ants around your letters, simply select your paper layer in the layers pallet and copy, it will copy only the selection. Not sure if this makes sense - I'm not sitting in front my my PSP right now! Good luck.

This is a layout I did using text-on-paper. The "Christmas Eve" was done on patterned paper.

OMG  :lovey-smilie: :having-a-party:
Thank you SO much!!! I couldn't select them, so I went to the vector layer and did a right clicked and it let me create a raster layer with ants marching around the letters...then I did the copy...it worked!!! Woo Hoo

Don't know what program you are using but if it is Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, it is even easier than the process that Tonya described. Type your text and then place your paper on a layer above it. On the Layers Palette, place your cursor between the two layers. Hold down Alt and your pointing finger cursor should change to a little circle with an arrow. Click your mouse once to "clip" the paper to the alpha.

I like this method rather than using the shortcut that is often used because it works in EVERY version of PS or PE! Also, this method of "clipping" allows you to keep editable text so that if you change your mind, you can change what the title says or the font you use.

This method of "clipping" can be used to clip papers to shapes as well as text.

You did exactly the right thing to rasterize them, you can't select a vector layer. You can also activate the paper layer and Slection>promote to layer. This will allow you to use the raster image as a stroke to highlight the text so it stands out on your page.

Glad you got it to work!! Good job Tonya for the directions! It's been a while since I've used PSP so I couldn't remember the steps.

Don't forget the "Type Mask Tool" (right-click the text tool to select it). It types any font out as a selection outline. Just invert the selection and delete to cut out the paper below it.
