I got my walk/run in early this morning, because I have to go to the elementary school for a Kindergarten Registration meeting for my youngest. Oh my! I can't believe in just a few months all of my kids will be in school all day long! And then I promised Mikaelynn that since I was already there, I'd volunteer in her classroom and stay through lunch. Plus I've got to work today, so can you say CRAZY?!?
I am rather proud of myself today... after a 2-minute warm-up at 3.0mph, I jogged the remaining 20 minutes at a speed of 4.2 without stopping or getting winded! I ended up doing about 1.5 miles in 22 minutes before I hit the string for the treadmill key and knocked it out.
Oh, and yesterday was weigh-in day for me. I've officially lost 10 pounds since January 1st! WOOHOO!!!

I didn't do any exercise other than aerobic house-cleaning yesterday, but last week spent a lot of time walking the beach and climbing dunes. If you've never climbed up a 30 foot dune, its quite the experience. Not as easy as it sounds or looks. I've lost 4 pounds though.

This morning I was 1 lb away from my first goal of 25 lbs. I figured if I looked at it in small amounts it wouldn't seem so overwhelming and I wouldn't get discouraged so fast...LOL
Today I did 2 miles in 35 min then 30 min on the Bowflex upping the weights on there from 10 lbs to 15 lbs

Angie, that is terrific! You should be able to see results from the bowflex relatively quickly. Just remember that a square inch of muscle weighs more than a square inch of fat, so some of what is going on is that your body composition is changing. This may show up in how your clothes fit faster than what the scale says. 3 cheers for you too!

Woo-Hoo Angie! That's just wonderful - and looking at it in small amounts is the only way to go!

I didn't add up the miles I did yesterday but my little watch that keeps track says I burned 1025 calories! I did a lot of power shopping plus almost an hour "running" on the elliptical.
I am just two pounds away from my goal. And yes, that "power shopping" was for new clothes.

Bravo Angie!!! Fantastic job ladies. You are all so inspiring. I got discouraged with my progress at the 2 week mark, and stopped walking. But I'm going to give myself a second chance, and get back to walking again. I am still being careful about how much I eat though so I haven't completely given up.
I'm going to make an effort to walk today.

Finally once that phase was over though and it started coming off again I felt alot better, and was glad that I stuck through it...even though I didn't want to many, many times!!
You can do it

I packed the kids into the car and we went to the local track and I did 4 laps around. One of the ladies, who was also walking, said it was either 3 or 4 laps per mile. So I did a combination of walking and jogging and got it done in 18 minutes.
We are having a BEAUTIFUL day, and another one tomorrow. I WILL be back out there tomorrow!!!
Keep going ladies. We can do this. Aaargh! LOL

Thanks, Angie! And I'm going to say the same about you! We both seem to have very similar challenges when it comes to getting in that much-needed exercise each day.

I'm not skinny. I'm not even fat. I'm obese. I weigh more today than I have ever at 9-months pregnant. And my youngest child is now 5 years old.
Combine all that with some horrendous eating habits over the last five years, and that just fills me with guilt. My youngest daughter has PKU, requiring a very strict diet to stay healthy. And for the longest time, the guilt that I was a horrible example for her just ate at me... so I'd eat more to deal with that guilt. Such a vicious cycle.
So anyway, that's why I'm here. This is going to be the end of all that for me. And it's not easy, and I'm still going to have off-days. In fact, I did yesterday... insomnia at 2am had me wide-awake for the day, and there was no way I was going to walk yesterday, so I skipped it. But today, I'll be back on that treadmill the moment the kids are off to school. And then ballet class tonight after dinner.
It's a slow process, but coming here and checking in like this helps to keep me accountable. Having Angie here when she has similar work habits to mine helps even more.
I read recently that if you surround yourself with people who have a similar goal in mind, you have a higher rate of success. I'm hoping that keeping up with this thread can do that for many of us.

Not getting enough sleep was one of the reasons I stopped walking. I was soooo tired. Too tired to exercise. I'm a night owl at heart and it's easy to just stay up until 12 or 2am. Sometimes I have insomnia, but not often. I stumbled across an article recently about "losing weight while you sleep".
Glamour Magazine did a study with some women. How more sleep or lack of sleep effects our appetite and eating habits during the day.
Here is another article about it. The Dream Diet
I never knew that sleep could effect me that way. I need to make an effort to be in bed by 11pm which I did last night.
I'm going out right now to walk.

You are all so inspiring.
I'm not heavy - I'm actually pretty small, but have noticed the last year or so that any weight I do gain is going to all of the wrong places! (you all know where I mean?) And while we are eating pretty healthy meals here because of Rich's cardiac issues, we sometimes tend to cheat and every time we do, I can feel those pounds going straight to my hips and that "muffin-top" that everyone talks about that I thought I'd never have! I don't like it so I'm working as much as I can to make it all go away and I, too am determined that my exercise is going to change all of that.

Insomnia will keep me from going to the gym in a heartbeat, Becca - it just drains us, I think. But, having Rich as support too, and we try and support each other, and seeing all of the support here is a huge help. Rich is dedicated to going to the gym no less than three times a week and so that really does help getting me there. I think you are doing a great job, Becca.

I agree, but Spring and I don't get along so well. My eyes are itching just thinking about it.
