Yeah, that's it - I'll blame my wrists. 3 years ago at work I ruined my wrists wrestling a goose - really - and to this day my wrists have never been the same.

teehee. only amy could use that excuse!

LOL!

Well tonight I stayed away from German Chocolate cake, brownies and a caramel frosted chocolate cake. I did have a couple small home made toffee pieces, but I am pleased with my progress from yesterday! Yay! Being accountable to Ya'll was key! (We had home group tonight and there was a large percentage of desserts tonight!)

I'm going out on a limb to say that's a very unique excuse for not doing pushups! LOL! (But really...um...OWIE:(

Well here's the story: We had to move a Spur Wing Goose out of one pond to another. This species (a large black goose) is actually native over quite a broad area of Africa, including South Africa. So Belle, you probably are familiar with these guys in the wild! The mom didn't want to be caught. There had been some aggression in the exhibit and we had to get her out. So she sized me up, I sized her up. Kind of like a duel in the old Western movies, just before the draw. Can you hear the music? It was her or me.

I was in the water with her. So she decided to dive right at me to get past me. I reached down into the water and scooped her up, grabbed her bare handed right out of the water. Well, she was very surprised that she'd been got, (as was I!) and in the background I heard my boss yelling "Watch the spurs! Watch the spurs!!" (They have 2 inch spurs on the wing). So I placed her back into the water and re - gripped just to be SURE I had her. Well, this species is very strong, and I didn't let her go.

At some point in the process, I realized my hand strength was totally gone. I still didn't let go, but a coworker saw me having trouble and took her from me - he knew before I did that I was hurt. The bird was totally fine. I won the battle, but she won the war. I can't wrangle that species anymore!

I couldn't even climb out of the exhibit, open a door, zip my pants. It was really bad. Oh! And did I tell you that I lost my glasses in the process also? They got knocked off my head and that was it!Into the water they went. I looked for days to no avail.

So that night Mark felt sorry for me and he took me out to dinner. I couldn't read the menu or open the door! It was really pathetic. And the pain was really bad.

Funny follow up: 6 months later - literally, a coworker found my glasses in the pond! They were all dirty and scummy, so what did
I do with them? Yep! I cleaned them up and wore them! They were my favorite glasses after all! I wore them for about 4 months, and then, one day, (can you see it coming?) I took my kids to the beach! A big wave came, (we weren't in the water, we were just wading) and my daughter saw a big wave coming and screamed with delight, arms waving, such enthusiasm and exuberance!!! Well, she knocked my glasses right off my face, and before I even knew it, they were gone forever in the surf!! Funny how those glasses just wanted to be in water!!!!

So that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I actually thought about loading a music clip to listen to while that post was read- but alas, I don't know how to do that! No Char, no pics! Only sticking in my memory! LOL!

Now if I could only get those oreos from sticking to my hips! This is the weight watcher thread, isn't it? Wow! Talk about going off on a tangent!

I hear you on the wrist thing. I messed mine up when I was helicoptering on a rope swing with my brother. The rope broke and he flew to the uphill side and I landed on my wrist in the creek. It hasn't been the same since. I can do push-ups again though... now that I've lost 60 pounds. I'm now 2 pounds below my WW goal weight. Guess I could go weigh in for free at a meeting again. ;)

Helicopoptering, goose wrangeling, we should be called the 'Wild Bunch' and not Scrap Girls. DH is going to find a photo of a spur wing goose and send it to you. Maybe you can do a layout for us. Thanks for the story.
April, was it like a 'Me Tarzan, you Jane' thing with you?

Just to throe it out there...
I broke my wrist in early 2005 and now have a metal plat and about 6 or 7 screws holding it all together.
My story isn't anywhere near as interesting as Amy's. lol

I slipped on our carpeted stairs (previous house.) I have a high tolerance for pain...but I shed tears over the pain. I was in pajamas at the time. 8:00 pm or so. My wrist was swollen up and I thought maybe it was sprained. My now-ex husband didn't seem to want to help out, so I managed to get a jacket on over my pj top and drove to a drugstore to see about a wrist bandage or something. The pharmacist looked at my wrist and said, "You did that falling on your stairs?" I wondered what he was really thinking. For about a week I lived with the pain of my distorted looking wrist. I couldn't do much with that wrist/arm. I could move/use my fingers so I still thought it was just a sprain. I finally went to one of those med places and they took x-rays. Full out fracture. When I described the fall and that the elbow on the other arm had hurt some at the time of the fall...he sent me back in for x-rays on that elbow. He couldn't believe I had been taking care of twin 2 (turning 3) year olds for a week with my unusable wrist. Since it had already started to set in its warped shape, I had to have surgery...and the plate, etc.

So. there's my excuse of a "bad wrist."
lol

And to think all this came out b/c a drill sergeant barked at Amy to do pushups;)
Wow...I wish I'd seen the infamous goose wrangling...what a story! Sounds like it does belong in a movie. *shakes head sadly over the glasses and their affinity for water* I can totally sympathize with your plight at the restaurant. I hope you can see better than I without glasses/contacts b/c I wouldn't have been able to see well enough to feed myself. Speaking of which, I hope you had regained some use of your hands by then. The neighboring tables would have been quite interested if Mark had to spoon feed you.
