I have read and seen it mentioned that Epson makes a printer specific for home based scrapbookers to printer out sizes including 12x12. I think it is even called a scrapbook printer. I wanted to get feedback from those that own a printer that prints 12x12 pages. Is Epson the only company that makes this type of printer. I also heard that the Epson Scrapbook printer comes with PSE. I already use Elements 9. What do these printers cost? Does it make sense to invest in a printer or just send the prints off online to have another company print them for you? Thanks for any and all info.

Hi Patty - Here is a link to the Epson 1400 Printer which prints 12 x 12 - I have looked at it at Staples and seen the copy it produces and I like it. Haven't bought it yet because I'm still doing my layouts in 8.5 x 11 format but it does produce great color, I think.

Wow, I didn't know it would be that affordable! I thought they were like $600 or something! Do they have photo quality ink that won't fade?

It uses the Epson cartridges - I thought the quality was great! I use Epson ink with one of my other printers and have pages I printed from 10 years ago and they aren't faded at all, so I would say yes based on my history. I just need to decide whether or not I want to use that format.

I bought one of the first affordable large format Epsons with the more archival ink. I still own it about 5-6 years later and still love it. My model is the 1280 (not that you could find it anymore, lol). THey have improved by leaps and bounds by now, with individual ink cartridges, etc so if you print a bunch of blue you don't have to change the entire color cartridge, just the blue. Mine was about $400.

I know HP makes them now as well, but don't have any concrete info for you on those.

Patty, there is a more expensive model by Epson called the 1900 but even it is less the $600. HP has a couple large format printers at reasonable prices too. I thought Canon had at least one model that does 13x19 but I can't find it right now.

Thanks for the information on the Epson 1400 printer. I will look into that one. I would like to purchase a printer that will print my 12x12 layouts. Does anyone else use a printer other than the Epson 1400? I would like to get feedback from anyone that prints at home and what type of printer they use. Thanks again.

I use the Epson R1800 and have had it for about 6 years. It has archival inks and was replaced by the R1900. I absolutely love the prints I get from it.

Regarding the Epson 1400, do any of you who use it print on glossy photo paper? According to Epson, it is designed to print on matte paper. I like the glossy. Please respond if you have information. I've used an Epson 1280 for years and have been doing 8.5x11 borderless. I really want to do 12x12 but don't want a border around my page. I'm willing to purchase the 1400 if it will do borderless on glossy paper 12x12.

Mine (the 1800a) has a gloss cartridge so it does fabulous glossy prints. The R2000 looks like it has the gloss cartridge too. Looks like it is on sale on the Epson site too.
