Barb Eugene Posted March 21, 2011 Share Posted March 21, 2011 I am a Corel user from way back when, particularly since I'm an attorney and the legal world loves Corel WordPerfect. I love PSP and what I can do with it. I can generally re-create things in PSP that are designed for Elements and Photoshop but am worried about whether PSP is on its way out, especially with those special things like actions and styles. There are quite a few PSP users here...there are specific threads on the Message Board, so if you are comfortable with it, it would certainly work for you to stay with it! I made a switch from PSP to PS Elements and then finally upgraded to Photoshop a few versions ago. I thought it would involve a huge learning curve, but it was fairly easy to learn. Adobe has lots of great tutorials to help you get started. Also, you can download trial versions to get a feel for whether you might like their software. I was a big PSP fan for years, but at this point in my digi scrapping life find that I prefer the Photoshop options (of course, I don't know what the current PSP software is like.) Mainly, I really like the number of tutorials, magazines, books and webinars devoted to learning and using Photoshop. There is SO much to learn and enjoy with it. I have both, although I must admit that I've been spending more time with PSE7, simply because I want to learn how it works and play with the add-ons. I don't see any reason why PSP would die out because it has many faithful users and it does have its pluses. The text has more to it than in PSE and there are some other things that make it a bonus - you just can't use the styles and actions with it that you can use with PSP. However it has it's own add-ons that you can do some wonderful techniques with. I do use my PSPx2 occasionally and expect to use it more, when I've become accustomed to a few more things in PSE7. It was and is easier to learn digital scrapping when I have a similar program to the ones that the tuts and majority of information comes out in. Since I've learned a few things, I can apply them, or most of them to PSP, which I couldn't when I first started. Because PSP will save in psd format, it's easy to slip back and forth between the programs, which I've done. Photoshop products do seem to be the most popular for some reason. I did find PSE a little easier to use and love the drag and drop, instead of copy and paste in PSP, but I love the text in PSP. lol They each have their bonuses and drawbacks. angelaNussbaum Posted March 22, 2011 Share Posted March 22, 2011 I personally dont see PSP going out. However while i do use psp alot.... for the last 2 years i use pse in my scrapping. I just love the actions and styles... and frankly i dont require much when i want to do a layout... (ie all those extra neat special abilities). I tend to use the most simple of tools from PSE for my layouts. I even tried CS2 as its similar in capability to PSP... but after some time passed i found PSE was the perfect lil program for my scrapping. I dont know if that helps, but thats where i stand. When I discovered digital scrapbooking, I wanted to use PS but couldn't afford to buy it. I found Corel PSP instead (it was much cheaper at the time, not sure how it compares now). There was a slight learning curve coming from PS to PSP but I managed to do everything I wanted to do. Right now I see no reason personally to change to any of the Adobe products. PSP doesn't support the actions or styles so I've never really taken the time to find out what they are all about (maybe they make scrapbooking easier? I don't know). the one thing I wish PSP did was masks. Unless PS is a lot cheaper than it was - or is free! - I plan to stick with PSP.
