First full week of April is here, and I hope that means some warmer days ahead!

I've been slacking on walking for two weeks now, so my goal for this week is to walk at least 3 days for at least 15 minutes each, in addition to my regularly-scheduled workout.

What's your goal this week?

Fifteen minutes a day, for three days out of the week, sounds doable and a great way to get started again. Our snow is pretty much gone, which is early for us, but I'm not complaining. lol There's still lots of cold, but it's bearable most days now and I think that it's a good time for me to join in. I've walked a couple of days a week for the past two weeks, but need to get it stepped up and I think joining your thread will help to motivate me and hopefully, it helps you too.

I'm afraid that today won't be my first day, because it's raining. Perhaps tomorrow will bring clear skies. :-) Are you doing specific days, like Monday, Wednesday and Friday - althernating to the next day if you miss one for some reason? Or are you just going when the spirit moves you? I guess I should just ask you if you have a schedule? :-)

Hi Ladies! My sister and I walked 3 miles today. I think I only got out 1 day last week. So I'm feeling it. The good news is that we are moved! sigh. We love our new place. I can see the track where my kids and I go walking together, from my front porch.

My goal this week is to get an hour walk, 3 days this week.

After today my goal is 5 miles at least 3 days a week and bowflex 4 days. We'll see...it's suppose to be cold here the next few days.

It's been BUSY here today, so I barely got a mile done and bowlfex...but it's done.

If I just ride a gust of wind around the block for 15 minutes, does it count?? The wind is so strong tonight!

roflol... Of course it does and at least half of your ride will be easy! Best start your ride against the wind, so that you can cruise home! lol :-)

I could walk that too, if I had a hurricane behind me. lol It would be the getting home that would be the problem. This conversation is reminding me of something that happened to us as kids when we were skating and let the wind blow us down the ice. :-)

I got my 2mi walking workout in today! YAY! (I almost talked myself out of doing it, glad I didn't). My goal this week is 2mi, 4 days. Hope I can do it - one day is already done.

Heatheranne - I remember the wind doing that when we were skating too - it was such fun! We used to skate on the brook next to our house - or on the harbour if it was frozen.

I'd like to get out in the fresh air and walk - but I'm a wimp. It has to be mid summer here before I think it's nice enough to venture outside. Good thing I like my treadmill! And those Leslie Sansone walking workouts are great!

I kept walking figure 8 loops through the park, so I would never stray too far from home.

Tonya, I'm with you about walking outside. It has to be warm for me to go anywhere. I'm afraid that if we walked together, I'd be parking my butt on a bench after the first 15 minutes and join you when you were on your return trip. roflol As for treadmills, I have one but it's advanced and I can't get it going for over a few minutes. Ten minutes on it, is supposed to be equal to half an hour on a regular treadmill and I believe it. It has no motor - it's your legs that make it work and it's truly a workout. Perhaps one days, I'll be fit enough to use it. Bwaahaa!

Tiza - that sounds like a great idea. I usually just walk around my yard, or if I go to the trails, I walk from bench to bench. I think my dogs think that I'm nuts! lol It's okay, I know they love me and I don't think they really care what direction I go. :-)

Heatheranne,

I do plan my walks, because I've learned that if I don't make the conscious decision to set the time aside, I'll skip them. This week, I'm walking on Monday and Wednesday at 8:30am ET. Probably on the treadmill, as it's a wet weather week here in Central PA. My third day will be " whenever the spirit moves me", probably when the sun decides to shine a bit.

Once the weather gets warmer and we see the sun regularly, I'll probably stick to walking in the late afternoons... after the kids are home from school, and before I need to start dinner. Plus after a trying day of work, it's a great stress-reliever at the end of the day.

Yesterday, I did my walk at 8:30am and walked for 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Anything is better than nothing, HA! Park farther when you walk to the grocery store. Get yourself a little pedometer and wear it all day. Add 100 steps each day and see how quickly you'll catch up to us!

Take that dog of yours with you outside. I'm betting he'll be jumping around with excitement to go with you. I know my dog does when he sees me reach for his leash. If you stick to a set time each day, I'll bet he'll practically carry his leash to you when it nears the time to go. ;)

Ok - getting back into the swing of things here. I am back to the 5:30 AM Water Aerobics class M, W, F and started walking on my lunch hour every day. Since I don't have a route mapped out from work I walk 15 minutes out and turn around and 15 minutes back. Also this week I'm using a week free coupon to Curves. So yesterday I did 1 hr water aerobics and 30 minute walk. Today I'll do Curves and a 30 minute walk ... at least, that is the plan!

You're absolutely right! The dogs do love it when I take them out, even if it's just around the yard. I'm hoping the weather clears today, but it's been drizzling, mixed with snow, with temperatures at the freezing mark. It has to be a little warmer, or I'll seize up. lol :-)

I'm going to the Cardinals game with my mom tonight, so my walking exercise will consist of walking 3 city blocks from the parking garage to the stadium, then allllll the way up to the nosebleed section...then back down.

It sounds like a good plan to me. I was walking the dogs twice a day until the puppies came along, then it slowed down. Winter ended it and now it's time to start up again. I remember how hard it was to do it daily, right off and think that if I do it every second day at first, then daily, then twice daily, it'll work better. I just don't want to walk in the cold and muck. To get some exercize started and since I can't operate my treadmill, I'll go up and down the stairs a dozen times. I may have to break that up, but I'll see. :-)

I went to Curves for awhile several years ago and LOVED it! Actually the worst thing I ever did was asked my friend to start with me..because she wasn't that into it and we started slacking big time. But when it was I, by myself I was very dedicated and it was fun. I hope you love it!

Heatherann...I was the same way with our treadmill, and it's a "regular" treadmill. When I started in Jan I was lucky if I could go .5 mile without wanting to pass out. But I just kept at the .5 everyday, then it got a little easier and I upped it a bit. I finally got to where i'm doing 5 miles outside..I could do it on the treadmill, but I would just get to bored. So a little bit at a time is perfect, you'll get there.

The biggest thing I have figured out since I started all of this is "one day at a time" and don't get discouraged. I went through a phase in Feb that for 2 weeks I didn't lose 1 single pound. I was so frustrated and ready to throw in the towel. But every-time I got up and saw that scale sit in the same spot all I could think is we'll try again today.

I also want to add...Yeah! I'm glad this thread is getting more active. I'm glad to see everyone join us. I'm off to get things done this AM while it warms up outside. 5 mile walk on my agenda today, the sun better hurry up and come out to warm that temp a bit.

Angela - thank you so much for the encouragement. That's what I'll do - just a little to start and add to it. I know that I'll never get too far with it because the arthritus in my hips and back, kills me when I go too far, but I know that I can be better than what I am at this time in my life.

I joined an excersize club a few years ago and was doing okay with it, except for when I noticed a few of the girls snickering. How rude is that? I ignored them and kept going for a while, until they decided to revamp the place, making the sauna's co-ed and vamping up the exercize routines. It became a place that only the 'in shape' could get anything out of. Any of us who were slow, unhealthy (arthritus, etc) were too slow. I ended up being the last one of us slowpokes to leave. Since then, I just walk when the weather permits and it's fine by me. When it dries out a bit more, I'll be able to go to the Mill Dam, so I can enjoy the water fowl, the water, the dam and perhaps an occasional stroll up a trail. The dogs love it there! I was in a routine of taking Tok twice a week before Carley showed up and then there was the puppies! lol

Thanks again for your words of encouragement. It means worlds to me. :-)

Welcome to the walking club ladies. So happy you have joined us.

I walked 50 minutes today at a slower pace because I'm sore from yesterday's walk. It started raining part way through my walk. So I headed home in the drizzle. As soon as I got in the door it started pouring buckets. hehe. It's kind of warm here today so the drizzle felt good.

Tiza, enjoy your game. I like your plan. City blocks and stairs, feel the burn. :) I have one hill that I like to walk up. I do 2 laps around that block and then come back to it again on my way home.

Bride, I like how you are changing things up on the different days. That should keep it interesting.

Heatheranne, we had a really windy day here not long ago, It pushed at my back so hard it was almost felt like walking on air. But on the way home I had to literally hold onto the fence and pull myself along. haha

I'm not sure I'll get a walk in tonight - I have girl guides.

I like the Leslie Sansone videos because they get me moving in other ways as well as standard walking - and no equipment needed! Just your laptop/computer. I'm sitting at a desk for 8+ hrs a day, in a car for more than 1hr so I need something at the end of the day that gets my upper body moving too. I find I'm doing the video workout more than my treadmill now (I can barely balance on my treadmill!).

I didn't count the miles - simply because I forgot to look, but my calorie counters said I burned 750 calories working out yesterday.

Thank you for the welcome. The wind does seem to be like a friend when it is helping you get where you want to go, but you find out how much of a foe it is, on your return trip. roflol :-)

I've never heard of the Leslie Sansone videos, but will have to check them out. I checked out that dance exercise - now I can't remember the name but it's based on Latin dancing - very cool, but I can't move like that. lol

April - that's too cool! I'm so happy for you!

I hope that you all realize that my waaaa earlier was that I was joking with you. I'm very happy for those of you who can - if I could, I would and will keep trying. :-)

:2468who-do-we-appreciate::2468who-do-we-appreciate::2468who-do-we-appreciate: Woo! Hoo! You've done great!
