Question: When you go walking either outside or on the treadmill...How do you walk? Do you lengthen your stride? Quicken your pace? Walk at a normal pace? Swing your arms? Tuck in your tummy/Abs and Butt/Gluts muscles?

When I walk I pick up my knees a little, pretend like I'm going up some shallow stairs. I quicken my pace and stretch my stride just a little bit. I don't swing my arms much. I try to tighten my abs and gluts and leg muscles. I often forget to keep the muscles tightened.

I generally have a fast-pased walk to begin with, but sometimes I will do little spurts (15-30 seconds) of jogging, just to get my heart-rate up. I like to walk in the park by my house, because it has a few hills & inclines. I'm usually too focused on breathing and avoiding the goose poop on the sidewalks, that I forget to keep my muscles tightened.

When walking I just try to keep a steady pace. I've choosen a route that has several hills/inclines in it. After walking around town a few times i've found which directions has the largest hills, and have made those part of my walk. Of course as i'm walking I always dread the "big hill" I know is coming up...but once i'm up it, it's nice.

I figure that maybe if I had a group of like-minded gals to lend a bit of encouragement I might stick to my diet and exercise goals a little better, and it would make me a little more accountable than doing it on my own.

Yes please Lisanne. We would love to have you with us. That's what we are here for, to encourage each other on. Even if one of us is having a down day or week we can commiserate with each other.
