Upgrade Curves

Tried to ask this earlier, but thunder-boomers caused a quick exit.

Am having some problems with my newly installed PSE 8.0 and wonder if anyone has solutions:

1) In PSE 5.0, I used to use my mouse wheel to Zoom In & Out; now it just causes my layout to scroll up or down on the work area.

2) When I try to change brushes, any attempt to scroll up or down through my brush selections using the side scroll bar just shuts the window altogether, I finally found I was able to move up and down with the arrow keys;

does anyone know wheret the setting is that makes this difference?

3) I am finding the tools, commands, menus all in smaller print - Upgrades must be made for YOUTH!

Thanks for any suggestions

Hi CJ,

I am on a computer that doesn't have PSE on it right now, but in PSE can you go to Edit>Preferences>General? Or something similar? If so, there's a check box on the list that says "zoom with scroll wheel" or maybe "scroll to zoom" and if you click the box, your zooming should be back to normal for you.

Also, while in that preferences menu, see if you can choose "type" from the list. And if so, choose to see larger font previews. I keep mine on Large, but there's a Huge option as well.

When your brush tool is chosen and you click the arrow to see the brush previews, try clicking on any preview so that it is highlighted before you try to scroll through them. That might help.

My disclaimer....tonight I don't have access to PSE, but even when I do, I have 5 and 9, so my help may not be helpful for you. Post again please, and let me know if anything was useful to you.

I was playing around in CS4 looking at how I could change the size of the text on the tool menus, and there's a way, but I didn't see a dramatic difference between small and large. I attached some pictures of the two sizes so you can see. And once again, I am away from PSE, so I don't know if these are available in PSE for you.

Go to Edit>Preferences>Interface and there's a dropdown box at the bottom called Ui. Which I assume means "user interface". And choose large from the box then restart PSE and when you choose a tool, the print will be bigger. Hope that helps.

As to scrolling, see if maybe this helps. Click anywhere inside the LO/canvas area and then use the scroll wheel. With PSE6 it seems like you have to somehow 'tell' PSE where you want it to scroll. Sometimes hovering works, but sometimes you have to click an area.

Thanks so much Rose Ann - I found the scroll preference and have that working now - off to try enlarging the text ...................New Problem - I do not have a crop tool in my tool box?????

I finally found that if I go to the new "Edit - Guided" I can crop there - so the Tool must be hiding somewhere????

Still - in spite of the frustrations of upgrading, I am finding 8 does a better job of selections and I'm enjoying the learning process - 'cept I'm late with daughter's birthday card <Grin>

Thanks - but that did not result in anything - then I found the preference and all is well now!

Another Question!

In the layer pallet we used to be able to scroll through the "Normal" to Luminosity - also using the mouse scroll wheel - that is not working in 9 - have to open the window and pick and choose - Oh yes and the layers no longer have a little icon after applying a "Style" like bevels, so that one can adjust the style; my work-around that is to go to layer/layer style/layer settings and the window opens - I liked the old way better - is there a setting for that??

PS got the Outer part of the card done - moving forward

My PSE9 works with the down button. You must select what you want to blend and then click the blend, then the down button. The blend keeps changing.

Thanks Belle - that was very helpful, I guess I am too attached to my mouse <Grin> never thought of the arrow keys at all <sigh>!!
