My dad passed away in 2004. Almost seven years ago, and before I started scrapping. Yesterday, while digging through photos to find one of my dad and I to use on Facebook for this Father's Day weekend to honor him, I realized something.

I have never scrapped about my father. I've scrapped a few pages for him... written in letter form. But never, ever about him. Just the thought of it makes me teary-eyed and fearful of the overwhelming emotions.

That's my goal this weekend... to scrap about my Dad and who he was. So my children have something to remember him by or even know him by. Since my youngest was born after his death.

Wish me luck... and any tips on scrapping about something heart-wrenching are welcome.

It's been difficult for me to scrap about my sister and my Mom, Becca, so I understand from where you're coming. My memories are all in my heart and it's really hard to put them on paper scrapping my feelings. I want to do this too - it's bound to be healing and comforting.

I have no tips or advice, but just wanted to say that your idea is awesome and I can't wait to see what you scrap. There's nothing like the feeling we get from sweet memories!

Good luck Becca. I would say to just start scrapping and let your heart take you where it knows to go!
Your story will probably feel teary at times, but in the end I'm sure you'll have a beautifully touching tribute and remembrance of your Dad.
Hugs to you...

This is something I need to tackle as well. My dad died in 1978 before any of my children were born. Your post makes me realize what a treasure trove of photos I have that depict him in all walks of his life. I think a new album has been born. *hugs* Please let us know how it's going for you?

My father passed away 3 years ago at a young 80 yrs old. This was hard for us all as Dad was the heart of the family. Last year I scrapped a book about his life and his relationships with his 5 children. There were many tears shed as I worked my way through this. I made the book available to my brothers and more tears were shed. But, there hadn't been a sharing of pictures or special moments amongst us before, so we all now have the special times and even more special memories of our Dad. A wonderful person now has his life chronicled for future generations to appreciate.

I found and begged for pictures/information from everyone who knew him. I had baby pictures, youth pictures and a myriad of pictures of him having fun with all his children in various stages of growing up. And lots of grandchildren/great grandchildren pictures. Everyone was included and their memories were journalled.

Becca I know this will be a difficult undertaking but one that will ultimately give you great joy because you will have chronicled your Dad's life and will have those precious memories forever, not to be dimmed by the passing of time.

I'm sure it will be soooo worth it, no matter how hard. What a treasure you'll be creating. And now I think I know who that person is in your FB profile pic. I saw it earlier this morning and wondered.

Hugs,

My sympathies, Becca - I'm sure it will be hard, but worthwhile. You will want a lot of journaling.

I procrastinated yesterday. We had some errands to run, and I never opened Photoshop at all. Today's the day... and with DH going to help his grandpa move this afternoon, I have no excuses not to scrap on Father's Day. Who knows, maybe it'll be healing.

Thanks for the Kleenex, April... I'm gonna need them!

Well, you might start with a fun page of a happy memory, just to get going. You don't have to do the ultimate Father's Day tribute, especially at first. I suspect you'll think of new ideas as you go along.

I need to do this too.

HI Becca, I hope the scrapping is going ok, all the memories will come flooding back but you will be able to smile thru your tears I am sure, your Dad is smiling too. It will be a wonderful keepsake for your children to have.

As hard as it is do these kind of layouts, I think scrapping through tears is one of the best emotions. Hope you were able to start this Becca. You'll absolutely cherish those layouts after they're done.
