The packers for our household goods are here now. Long term was yesterday and unaccompanied was last week. We have the weekend to clean and final inspection is Monday. We fly on Wednesday. I am starting to get excited but I am not too excited about at least a month in a hotel.

Best wishes for the move. Try to enjoy the hotel time - think of it as a vacation with no household chores. Looking forward to seeing photos of the area when you get settled

I loved Landstuhl as well. K-town is where I was stationed and is a great area. Good luck.

Landstuhl is quite a hospital. My DH was in it for about 11 months after a training accident at Grafenwoehr. That's often the first stop back from combat for injured Soldiers. DH says there were people in his ward that still had Vietnam on them when they got there.

I'm holding good thoughts that you have a smooth move, with no damage, and everything right on time. Will you get quarters after the month?

Enjoy the tour!
:)

The packers finished packing and crating yesterday, a day ahead of schedule. That gives us an extra day to clean. We cleaned the wall and floors today. Tomorrow, I will tackle the kitchen and finish with the bathrooms are Sunday.
For housing, we are authorized a four bedroom. Our kids are 10, 8, and 6. The boys (10 and 6) have been sharing a room here and they really need their own rooms. The wait for a 4 bedroom on the kaserne is 27 weeks. So, we will be living off post. Most houses are advertised through a realtor. We have to wait two weeks before using a realtor or the army won't pay the fee. Therefore, we are anticipating a month in a hotel with three kids and a cat.

Oh, I'm so excited for you! This is going to be a wonderful re-assignment! Those days of living temporarily in hotels and motels are now very special memories for me - I didn't realize then how much I would miss it!

LOL And cleaning base housing for inspection - I just remember using a toothbrush in the channels of the sliding glass doors to make sure everything was 100% clean! Oh, my knees! What a job that was!

I will be thinking about you and wishing you lots of good memory making on this journey!

That's too bad the wait for quarters is so long.
Holding good thoughts you will be able to find perfect housing off post!

Hi siskitkat

I hope the move went well. I am just down the road in Baumholder.
Our youngest was born at Landstuhl. I had a very high risk pregnancy and had 2 appointments a week for the 6 months I was pregnant. Then we spent a month in the NICU there as my son was a preemie.
They are like family to us now.
I love Germany and will be sad to leave next year! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. :)

Louise

Our hotel turned out to be a four bedroom apartment on the third floor. The kids each had their own room with a flat screen tv with sattelite. But, they did start to get bored with it after awhile. The temporary furniture was delivered on the 10th of Augusta, so that is when we moved. Our household goods were delivered last Wednesday. I am mostly unpacked. I am taking a break right now and using the wireless in the library before picking the kids up from school. We got AFN this week and we are still waiting on Internet. So, I am trying to get some of this month's SGC downloaded while at the library, very slow. The Internet at lodging was terrible and I could not download and I haven't had Internet since. Deutsche Telekom did show up yesterday and do their thing. Now, we are waiting for Telekom to tell Quix. Then, Quix will let us know in writing when they can hook us up. Hopefully, before the end of the month. Then, I can get caught up on my clubs.

No wonder we haven't heard from you!
Bless your heart!
There are many people who would consider no internet for that long to be "cruel and unusual punishment!"
Hope you are starting to feel at home.
Good luck on getting decent internet asap!
Thanks for checking in.

Good to hear from you! I hope you get connected to the internet soon and that you get all settled in. It's such a big thing for families to move so far from home. My only connection to military family is our son who is in the Air Force. He and his family were in England for three years. I remember how long it took for their things to get over there and to get back. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Finally, we have Internet. Well, at least I have it working on my netbook. Still have to get it working on the computer and DHs computer. I wish I could say that I have lots of layouts to upload to the gallery. I don't. Not having Internet bummed me out and made me not want to scrap. And, I have been knitting. I finished one sweater, which is really cool looking. I'd post a pic but I have to get it off of my phone first. And, I am on the second sleeve of another sweater. It is starting to get cool. So, I have been trying to work on that.

Great to hear from you! I've been thinking about you - kind of figured you may not have internet yet over there. But how wonderful that you're knitting! You're right - it's going to get very cold there in another month or so but it's a beautiful cold if I remember right!

Keep in touch!

I've been enjoying all of my Nutcrackers that I bought in Germany when I was there for soooo many years - I totally agree that the beauties of a German Christmas are very special. somewhere in our basement are my Christmas ornaments too - I have to find them - they must be buried in all of the mess down there. I carried all of them back in a big suitcase I had to buy in Germany to take on the plane back to Turkey and they sat at my side the whole trip. I absolutely loved my time in Germany!
