OK, you're going to tell how really green I am at this. I've been a lurker for quite awhile now, but I recently bought Ro's Secrets Revealed - and I was able to participate in the Carnival this last week - so I am beginning to really get interested in trying to learn how to do all this cool stuff.

I just downloaded a JIF 6 and noticed that there are pngs. and there are SH-pngs. For instance, there is an Embellishment Heart.png and an Embellishment Heart-SH.png. What is the difference between these two?

Secondly, I use PSE 9. When I work with a photo, I always duplicate the photo first and then I work on the copy. This way I am sure that I won't change the original in any way.

Should I also be working on a duplicate when I am using scrapbooking items (paper, embellishments, etc.)?

Thanks for your help.
Deb C.

Hi Deb, I think what the difference between the two is that the SH is for shadow - if you open both images, you will see that one has no shadow and the other one has a shadow. Which one you use on your layout would just depend on whether or not you want the image to be shadowed.

When you use the scrapbooking items such as paper or embellishments, it is not necessary to duplicate the items, though you could do so if you wish. After you open an item, drag it onto your document (layout) then close the original. If you would rather, you could duplicate the item, then close the original the same way you do with your photos. HTH :)

When I open a new scrapbooking item, I use 'file > place' instead of 'file > open'. The file name gets listed in the layers palette, and then I don't have to keep a separate hand written list of the items I use. I use PSE9.

As long as you open a new document and import all the papers and embellishments, you shouldn't be in danger of overwriting a Scrap Girls file. I have occasionally gotten confused and worked on one of the originals instead of the new blank document. As long as you "save as" instead of "save" you're OK. But that's why I keep the zipped files, just in case. (and yes, I've needed to use them)
