Dh received his orders today and we will be moving to Ft. Meade, MD! He won't start until January, so we'll have some time with him after he is done with school. The girls and I will move once the school year is over in late June.

I am so relieved to finally have a plan in place. Almost 2 yrs ago this rollercoaster started when we thought we were going to Nebraska. Since then, we have have been on pins and needles wondering and waiting. Now I can worry about the move, selling the house and how the kids will adjust, lol!

Yay! That's great news, Carla! It must be a relief. I admire you.

Also, I can easily re-route my trips to my sister's in MD and pass right by Fort Meade, so I am happy, too!

Glad you finally got the official orders Carla, so it's one less thing for you to worry about!
(Although Nebraska would have been much closer to the Midwest meetups ;) )

It is good to have definite plans in front of you. Best wishes on the next installment in your military life. I do wish it had been Nebraska though. :)

I can't imagine moving around so often. Not bad if you move when you want to, but not to have any say in the matter can't be easy. Praying that everything will go smoothly for you and your family.

It must be a load off your mind to get this settled. Although we never got together, I liked the idea of a fellow up-stater so close. Good luck with selling the house. Just think - this is your last lake effect winter.

YAY!

Don't worry about the little things, Carla - they ARE military brats and military brats have an innate capability to adapt to almost anything! You'll do fine! You're such a trooper!

I am soooooooooo happy that you have your orders and at least now can project for the future!

Exciting! I remember when my husband was in the Air Force. It was always so neat to find out where we were going and then to explore once we got there. I'm so glad you have answers!

Congratulations, Carla! I'm glad they got you orders this far in advance.
I hope DH can sign up for the base housing list either now or when he signs in to give you a few months ahead on the list (and maybe by then he'll be eligible for Field Grade quarters!).
I'm glad you have time to plan the move carefully!
hugs,

Carla,

What branch of the military is your husband in? My husband was in the Navy. We lived in Millington, TN (I didn't like it there) and than orders to Virginia Beach, VA and I loved it there. But the waiting for those orders drove me crazy because we had no idea where they were going to send him. I was so happy when he got his orders and finding out it was Virginia Beach. It was only about a 6 hour drive to get here to PA to visit our family. He was in for almost 4 yrs. He got what was called an early out back than because he was getting ready to get new orders and it was looking like Japan next. We were young at the time and I didn't want to be so far away from my family. Plus they quarantine your animals for 6 months before going overseas and there was no way I was going to let them to do that to my fur babies. When I look back on it now, I do sometimes wish we would have stayed in and just went with it (what an experience it would have been for us).
I am happy for you, that you finally know where you will be heading next. I obviously missed a lot that others know more about because I don't understand why you have had to wait 2 yrs. Unless you knew that you were only going to be in your current location for 2 years ahead of time. We drove through MD every time we traveled back and forth from VA to PA and I think MD is beautiful. I am still hoping for an East Coast meet up in PA and MD puts you even closer now:)

Congrats on the orders! I feel like we've missed out on an entire section of military family life as we've been stationed at Fort Bragg for as long as I've been with my husband (6 years). He's spent 16 of his 20 years right here in NC. :) At least it is not too far from 'hone' in New Jersey.

Patty, dh is Army. He was in Saudi Arabia for nearly a year when he was notified that he had to come back state side for a class, then head to NE. Due to timing issues that fell through. Dh came home to his previous duty station and we waited for 2 years to find out what was next.

Bellatropia- my stepbrother is stationed at Bragg. I haven't been there yet, but I imagine I will visit him at some point now that he has a little girl!
