I don't have that model, Theresa, but I have the Samsung Captivate Android phone. Have enjoyed it for a year; glad to answer questions.
Great free apps for Android phones: Pulse (fabulous news reader, and even better on the NookColor), MyBookDroid, Google SkyMap, Zxing Barcode Scanner, Alarm Clock Plus, NPR News, Google Translate, Pandora. You can learn more about these at market.android.com.
If you are an Outlook/Exchange user, then Touchdown is also useful; the full version costs money, even the free version is still helpful. I have Swype for text entry, but not sure it applies to the Intercept, since it has a keyboard.
There are lots more. Hope you enjoy it.

I don't have an Android, Theresa but I have an IPhone and I love all of the features and I understand they are comparable to that of the smart phones - only for me it made sense to have the IPhone since I use a Mac. My daughter has that phone you've ordered and loves it - it took her awhile to love it though - she was ready to give it back the first three days until she adjusted to all of the features.
I think you're going to love it - and oh, so many wonderful apps available for it!
Have fun!

That's the phone I have too
I've had it for 9 months or so and I quite love it. If I'm careful to make sure I don't have unnecessary apps running in the background then my battery does great for a whole day, but I do have to check that periodically. Some apps are real battery zappers and there's nothing worse than running out of juice mid-day or early evening, so keep an eye on that. My hubby and I both have the Intercept and we run Zeam as our launcher and that is a nicely stripped down, basic home page (basically) that has really basic function so we're not draining the battery with unnecessary things.
The apps I use the most are Facebook, GMail, Google Calendar (all the google products, actually LOL), Cardio Trainer, C25K Lite, Dropbox, Taskos, LDS Gospel Library, Pandora, Memo Pad. I love using the camera and gallery for sharing quick shots on Facebook. I play Angry Birds, Wordfeud and Words With Friends on my phone. I occasionally use IMDB, Fandango, Groupon and Dictionary.com on my phone.
It really is a fun tool. Just keep Ro's recent newsletter muse in mind as you get acquainted with your phone and set yourself some boundaries. It's very easy to find yourself checking for email notifications obsessively and playing with your phone constantly. I have to leave mine across the room intentionally sometimes so I don't check it every 2 minutes it seems
Enjoy though! It really has been nice for me, particularly on the weekends, to get away from the computer so much but still be accessible via phone for quick checks and responses. It's been very beneficial for me in that way.

Oh, yes! What Ang said about the battery is soooo true! I have to really be aware of that - my battery will run down in a heartbeat if I'm not careful with the apps - one in particular I used was a pedometer - it didn't last half the day and suddenly my phone was dead - needless to say I no longer have that app!

I have a Samsung Android of some sort, the Epic I think, but as you can tell, I'm not one to ask for tips. I will be checking this thread to see what I might learn though! Congrats on your new phone!

I'm a Droid user, too. I have the HTC Thunderbolt (a Mother's Day gift from hubby). I love Words With Friends, Scrabble, C25K, Dropbox (easy way to transfer pics to your PC from your phone), Pandora and Angry Birds Rio. Be sure to get the Amazon App Store app, too. There's a free app on there daily, and I snagged some of the paid versions of some apps for free.
