I guess I will start perusing this forum. This year we have been working on decorating our house FINALLY. We bought it looking nearly new in 2000. It was built in 1994 but the previous childless couple who lived here both worked in D.C., an hour commute from here (at least) and didn't do anything to the walls. That was a selling point for us. We liked having a blank slate. However, within a year we started having our kids (2001, 2003, 2006) and home decorating was very low priority. After a while, with toddler scribbles, smears, and splattered paint, we joked that our house was decorated in "Early Childhood" style.

Some of you might have seen my home decorating layouts in the Project SG forum. There will be more, no doubt.

We have nearly finished painting the main floor. We still want to paint the kitchen cabinets. Then we'll be replacing the yucky old carpet with wood flooring.

For decor, we're considering printing some of my photos. Any been there done that tips? And I'm going to browse here for ideas too.

Have fun with all the home decor projects, as you progress out of the "Early Childhood" style ;)

Sounds like fun!

My parents have always had a bit of a nautical theme going. Years ago they had some pictures that they took of pelicans with a marsh background enlarged. Big! lol Like 18 x 24 or something. They have 2 of them and they look great. And they were taken with a little "cheap" camera. It might have been WolfCamera. Can't remember...that was 20 or so years ago.

There are places that do the canvas pictures, too. No frame...just the thick canvas. Those look cool, too.

I love your "Early Childhood" style. My DD, Lizelle's house is also decorated that way. That would be Nikki and Bianca. I actually think it makes for a happy home. Rather happy kids than a clean house. I think I will send my sister over to you. She just did my two rooms. That's if you can stand LOUD.

Early Childhood...think a lot of us can relate to that style! ;)

I would suggest doing them on canvas...just LOVE love that look. I know there are ways you can apply the layout/photo to the canvas yourself economically. Of course, some of the print places do them as well. I have not done this before, but would love to! Anxious to see what tips and tricks we learn in this thread!

haha-Early childhood style! I always tell my husband, "When I have my grown up house..." Have fun decorating, the photo thing sounds like a graet idea. Maybe even print up some layouts to hang.

Costco prints on canvas, and right now there is a coupon, if you are a member.

The main floor is all painted, I think we've finally settled on some curtains, and the new flooring has been ordered. We've started putting up some decor on the walls, including a pretty scroll-work collage frame of photos. I do want to get some large canvas prints, I'm just unsure which photos/layouts to print yet.

Thanks for sharing ideas!

Great topic Michele! LOL to some of the comments about the Early Childhood style:) We have some of that going on here too. It takes us AGES to think of and agree on a color scheme for a room, and upwards of another year to actually get it painted. lol. Our downstairs is virtually done (paint), although we need to finish some touches in the front room. I would love to have a one-tile-high backsplash in the kitchen and redo the carpet in the living room. Oh the joys of home decor. I'd rather watch it on TV than participate IRL;)

"Early Childhood" style is a good way to let the children grow up with freedom, and the parents can also enjoy the fun with children.
I like collecting idea home decors.

Absolutely! I much prefer going with the flow and having fun, not stressing over stains and disorder. Anyway, since my kids are homeschooling they're here more than if they went to school every day, so we really LIVE in our house. I would have gone crazy if I weren't relaxed.
