It is great for selecting things—just "paint" over what you want to select, making the brush smaller for more accurate selections. If you select too much, hold Alt and paint over what you don't want selected.

Just stumbled across a great video tut for using the Quick Selection Tool. If you search for "Gavin Hoey quick selection tool" (omit the quotes) using Google, it should be the first link on the list. Great technique is demonstrated there!

Incredible. The Quick Selection Tool is unbelievable. Checked out a few more, that are just as amazing: Panorama, Spot Healing and the OOB.
