I just bought some cool looking torn and curled edge paper templates and I'm missing something because when I drop the photo on the template and then hit Group I do embed the photo but I don't see the white of the curled or torn edge. I'm using PSE9. Any help is appreciated.

Judy can you tell me what template it is? If you can go to the boutique and copy the url on the page of the item we can probably help you! thanks

Judy, Shannon's right; we can help best when we know the product. In general, though, after clipping your photo to the template, then play with the layer blending modes to see what looks the best. Absent any other information, I'd probably start with Overlay, and then arrow up & down through the other choices.

Thank you so much for your help. Here is the URL. I can add a photo just fine but then I don't get the curl so I am clearly doing something wrong.

Judy,
OK, now I can help a little more. I have a very similar product of Syndee's, Curled frames (not curled & torn,) but the technique is the same. I'll do the screen shots here in PSE 7, so it's closest to your software.
In this set of frames, the number of layers varies, and I couldn't find the instructions that might've come with them. The easiest solution is to add the PSD file to your layout. If you just drag in the PSD, and make sure it's not "maximized" in the document window, you can select all of its layers and drag them into your document, retaining the stacking order. The stacking order is important! In this example, the photo goes on the Matte layer. Since I don't have the exact same product, you may have to search a little.
(Click each thumbnail to see in more detail.)
So, you drag the PSD into the document:
CurledFrames0.JPG (36.74K)
Number of downloads: 11 and the layers palette shows:
CurledFrames1.JPG (21.85K)
Number of downloads: 6
Now add the photo, and in this case, place above the Matte layer:
CurledFrames2.JPG (20.79K)
Number of downloads: 8 and it looks like:
CurledFrames3.JPG (64.81K)
Number of downloads: 6
Clip the photo to the mask so only the area above the mask remains visible,
CurledFrames4.JPG (14.94K)
Number of downloads: 5 and change the blending mode to Overlay:
CurledFrames5.JPG (63.96K)
Number of downloads: 4.
You can adjust the opacity of the "Shine" layer, or others, to adjust the effect; it defaults to 49% opaque in this one example. And in this case, the photo also looks great with just "Normal" blending rather than Overlay; it's your choice.
I'd check to see if Syndee includes more explicit directions with Curled & Torn Frames. If not, and the directions above aren't sufficient, I'd send a Private Message (PM) to Syndee; I'm sure she'll want to make sure you're pleased!

Thank you so very much. Typing can't sufficiently convey the appreciation in my voice.
