What are the rules for posting LO's using photos that are not yours? For instance, I have captured a lot of photos of 9/11 that were on the internet--UPI, etc. Can I use them in LO's and post to the gallery as long as I acknowledge that they are not mine? I'm not sure which press they came from individually. Also, can I use the pictures of actual people?

Great question, and I look forward to anyone that knows what the answer is. I think as far as actual people, you have to have their permission to use their likeness, however, I'm not sure. I too use photos from the internet and try to keep the info as to what site I found them on, but sometimes I don't remember.

I'm not sure I understand all of the copyright rules. It probably would be better to not use photos that are not yours unless you have permission from the photographer or publisher. That is to protect you from someone coming after you for infringing on their copyright. That being said, there are no rules about that topic in the Scrap Girls Terms of Use.

As for images of real people that you do not have the names of, it is my understanding that you are allowed to use photos of people if they are taken in a situation where there is no expectations of privacy, such as in a parade. If you are taking surveillence photos through a window of someone's house, you couldn't use those in a layout. Does that make sense?

OOPS, sorry about the double posting. Yes, I think I will play it safe and create the layout just for my own use. Thanks.

Hi! I just wanted to say hi and welcome. I'm originally from TX, but now live in VA. I'm fairly new here too.
I don't blame you, with all the copywrite laws, and it's good, but I'd play it safe too.
Have fun!
