Problem With Pasting Images With Windows 7 Copied Image Appears Initially as a "Smudge"

Greetings! I mentioned in a post some time ago that I was unexpectedly buying a new computer as my less-than-two-year old computer was deemed "unrepairable." I think I finally have needed software installed although I haven't tried to copy my Picasa stuff over yet. My prior computer used Windows Vista and I've noticed a very odd issue with the new computer running Windows 7.

I love the SG newsletters! I typically save the free images to my Freebies sub-folder within my Scrap Girls folder. If I like one of the wonderful layouts that typically appear to the right of the free image at the Scrap Girls website, I will save it to a Word file noting which freebie was used in the layout making sure to include the designer's initials and often the name of the product in case I want to go back and buy something in the future. I will also sometimes save a copy of their marketing sheet for the same reason. I similarly save many of those images for the products I buy so that I can use a variation on the theme for my own stuff, a process I've seen called "scrapliftin." Not only does it give me some ideas of things to try, but it serves as my version of a "wish list" when I have some birthday or Christmas money burning a hole in my wallet. |;-)

I've done this in the past without problem. With the new computer, however, when I attempt to paste the image into the Word file initially, it appears as a smallish dot. I've grabbed the sizing handles and see that it is basically a large smudge. When I repeat the process of right-click, copy image, switch to my Word document and paste, it seems to work the second time. Besides being annoyed by the duplicated effort, I'm baffled as to why the same selection/copy sequence has repeatedly failed to work the first time, but succeeds on the second try. It seems like it would either work or not. I'm using the same version of Word that I used before so the only difference I can think of is the Windows 7 operating system vs. Vista.

Has anyone else experienced this odd behavior? If so, did you figure out a workaround so that I don't have to constantly repeat my copy and paste routine?

Thanks!
Victoria, DISLIKING Copy, Paste, Repeat

I just spotted this, Victoria. With older versions of Word, sometimes it doesn't recognize anything in the clipboard that you put there before it was fully open. Maybe?
