We have a great momentum going with our shredding pounds and fat and adding "boy muscles"! Let's not lose any ground here - We'll start our Oct/Nov round on Monday the 17th. Sign up now and I'll get you added to the chart.

The rules as quoted from Brandy:
"You must exercise each day of the 30 challenge (6 Days per week- we are taking Sunday off this round) for at least 20 minutes. Angie and I are following The original Biggest Loser DVD, but feel free to use any you have on hand; Jillian's 30 Day Shred, Chalean Extreme or you can do any exercise you like, DVD, walk, bike ride, swim or gym.
You must check in to the check in thread each day to get checked off and your progress charted.
If you miss a day you can make it up on Sunday, you just have to let Cheri know you did it so she can make sure your chart is correct.
Feel free to moan and groan..we all do..LOL

PS..it is a good idea to weigh and measure yourself before you start so you can see your own progress. There is no need to share this with the group, it's just for your own benefit. It is always encouraging to see progress."

Thanks for the reminder about measuring. I'm curious to see how those numbers might have changed. I know my clothes are fitting differently. :)

I think I'm going to sit this month out. My back has been really bothering me lately and I don't want to push it. I'll have a lot of leaves to rake by myself soon, so I have to be ready for that. I'll continue walking when I can until my back feels better.

Keep up the good work Shredders!!!

Carla, spend the month being nice to your back, maybe try some gentle stretching? Take care and we shredders will see you back next month! And of course I'll see you on other forum threads lol.

I'm at a medical conference this week and the theme is obesity. How timely. In one of the presentations today there was a new study out that shows that the current recommendation of 150 minutes/week of exercise is not enough to lose weight, it actually takes at least 300 minutes a week (50 minutes/day for a 6 day work out week). The new recommendations will be coming out if this study is replicated. Also a great historical overview of treatment of obesity....Several of the ancient doctors, including Hippocrates, recommended vigorous exercise before eating and then to eat while you were still sweating and panting...enough to curb the appetite I think. Other interesting bits and pieces, but the bottom line is still eat less and move more. Yay for everyone here moving more.

Sandi, what did they present regarding time spent sleeping? The last I heard, they felt sleep was very important for weight loss as well. I think something around at least 7 hours?

I've already started but will wait to post my "accomplishments" when this officially starts - how fun to see so many participants - it's good to be held accountable and the only thing that will make me exercise daily really.

I've made myself a little calendar of what I'm going to do each day and while I can no longer Zumba or keep up with the tapes yall use, I'll be bike riding and doing alot of walking/jogging.

I just can't do the measuring myself thing! I don't want to know! So I'll just do like I usually do and watch my clothes begin to get looser again - I get so much joy out of that! I still have three sizes in my stash of clothes and I would like to go back down one size so that's my goal!

Happy Shredding Everyone!

They didn't give any new data on adults, but for children age 6-7 it was 10 hours and declined a little by teens. He said the study on adults hasn't been released yet, but they are projecting it to be somewhere in the same neighborhood as you said. Also quality of sleep and the importance of treating sleep apnea. One of the most interesting, graphically presented was the map of the states, colored for incidence of obesity, in sequence over the last 30 years. It was something I'd love to see in a video. Its a huge political/economic/societal mess. And as a result we'll have millions of people who are going to have all the medical complications and cost individuals and our government. So each of us doing our own little part, having fun doing it, maybe helping 1 more friend to do it, helping our children avoid it, then maybe we can reverse it. Obesity is probably a bigger threat to health of our country than smoking. I know I'm really much more motivate than I had been previously. Even with lots of class time and social stuff at this meeting I've managed 40 minutes a day, either walking of doing a video in my room. Can't wait to get back home so I can start doing more.

In my new job starting Nov 7 I'll pretty much have afternoons off so I'm thinking of joining the health club. I've always been put off going to the gym because I've felt so inferior, but I'm at a point now that I'm proud of what I'm doing about my health, fitness, and appearance.

*pipe dream alert*
Wouldn't it be neat to see what would happen with America if EVERYONE stopped smoking and we all exercised? :)
Good for you Sandi! I know how hard that is, to exercise while at a medical conference where you're busy all day and evening. Are you ready to share details of your new job yet? Inquiring minds want to know, lol!

Sandi, you will be an inspiration to all the women there! (and at your new workplace, I'm guessing) My guess is you will get a little mentoring in here and there, also.

OK, I just found out I am having foot surgery on Nov 4 (it was originally scheduled for Dec 1). Anyone have any ideas for upper body workouts I can do while I'm recovering? Remember, my purpose is to control my blood sugar.
Thanks!

Thanks Ladies! My father has a bad back, has had several back surgeries, and is still in daily pain. So when my back bothers me, I listen! I'll check in and see how you all are doing!
