Carla, have you ever worked with a physical therapist to learn how to strengthen and protect your back? It might be a good idea.

OK, I just found out I am having foot surgery on Nov 4 (it was originally scheduled for Dec 1). Anyone have any ideas for upper body workouts I can do while I'm recovering? Remember, my purpose is to control my blood sugar.
Thanks!

I searched video workouts on Amazon the other day and saw some chair workouts. Don't remember specifics, but looked pretty good. I ordered Jillian's Shred workout on the recommendation of a friend here at our conference. She's 17 week pregnant and running the Nike Women's Marathon Sunday morning, only doing the half though. She said she got very quick results when she first started training.

I'm REALLY hoping I'm going to feel better tomorrow. It is Sunday morning and I did not go to church - still feeling pretty lousy and not sleeping at night. Tom just went with a shopping list of things I think I need. If I don't see some improvement and gain some energy I don't think I'm going to make it to the pool tomorrow :(

Thanks, Sandi! I have several Therabands from physical therapy, and there ought to be some good things I can do with those and small hand weights.

Lei - you must take care of yourself! Maybe your body is telling you that you need to rest. Holding good thoughts you will feel better right away!

So I have to share with you all. Today while I was checking out at the store I get a phone call, it's my son wanting to know if when I get home I want to ride bikes around Watkins Mill. This is about a 4mile trail with alot of hills in it (some pretty steep) of course I said "sure" and hung up. Immediately I started getting this sick feeling and by the time I hit the parking lot I had called my husband to tell him to go ahead without me, that I had alot of work to finish and didn't have enough time. See, the last time we tried this (with me...dad does it with the boys alot) I probably didn't make it 1/2 mile and had to turn around and walk back...so that still sticks in my mind.

On the way home I felt guilty, and when I got back they hadn't left yet. I looked at Justin and asked him if he really wanted me to go and he said yes, so I went. I made it around the whole thing this time, with no stops. It took us about 35min so we were moving at a pretty good pace. Of course my legs are killing me now...and my bike is really not the type for this type of riding. It's more of a cruiser bike, and I really need a good one for that location. But I made it..yeah!!

Thanks Ladies! My father has a bad back, has had several back surgeries, and is still in daily pain. So when my back bothers me, I listen! I'll check in and see how you all are doing!

Carla-if you remember...my first shredding months were strictly walking...that's all I could do with my back issues!! It is something you have to listen to, and I think maybe I learned the hard way...

I have to be honest... I haven't done a bit of exercising since the chart ended. And I've had 3 slices of the lemon pound cake that I baked last night as a trial-run for our Christmas bake-off. (The rest of the cake is going to the office tomorrow so I don't have to see it anymore). And today's taiko class was cancelled, so I don't have anybody forcing me to do 200 jumping jacks.

But after this little break, I'm going to be getting right back into good habits tomorrow when the chart starts back again.

Catching up on my reading--
Lei, I hope you feel better soon!
Angie, WTG!
Tiza, I've taken several days off because the week was busy. Ready to start fresh tomorrow!

This morning at church I was asked by a friend if I had lost weight. Happy Dance time! :party-smiley-048:

Ready for the next round tomorrow!

I'm in for this round. Now that we are in an apt I am the one that has to walk the dog everyday, so that is forcing me to get out and get some excercise!

Ooo! Ooo, I do, Gayle. When I had foot surgery, I was on crutches for six weeks. Crutches and I didn't get along very well so I spent a lot of time in my recliner. I was concerned about putting on weight so I got a couple of "chair aerobics" DVDs (or they might have been video tapes.) They were really good work outs. I actually was able to lose some weight during my convalescence both from the exercise and the fact that I wasn't getting up to get snacks all the time. :) I think the person's name was Jodi Stolove but I just searched on Amazon and there are quite a few different ones available. Search on "Seated aerobics", "chair aerobics", "chair dancing" or her name. I think the ones I have are the chair dancing ones but I couldn't put my hands on them just now.

Why kind of surgery are you going to have?

WB to those of you who sat out a month or more, welcome to the "healthy side" (lol...you know how we refer to digital scrapbooking as the "dark side" when someone converts from paper scrapping...) for those joining us for the first time, and wahoo for all you die-hards who are in every month of this shredder challenge!

Wow, you are early, Sara! You exercised while I was still sleeping - which is a good thing for me as this is the first night I have slept well, getting up only one time in the night. I am feeling a bit better this morning as my sore throat is gone and my sinuses are starting to clear up even though my energy level is still low, but did not go to the pool this morning as I don't want to push it. It is suppose to be nice today and in the mid-60's so I'm hoping to get a little dog walking in this morning before heading to work, then another walk at lunch and one in the evening. I hope it is ok if I break it up a little until I feel more energy to "go for the gusto"!

Take it slow and feel better, Lei! You don't want to relapse! I'm such an early bird. Have to get it out of my way. Rest today.

My Monday began by twisting my ankle. I stepped off the bus onto uneven patch of pavement, and my ankle rolled. Fortunately I was able to keep my balance so I didn't fall on the ground. But it hurts. Hopefully it will feel better tonight, because I have a date with TurboJam ;)
