Well …. I had my physical today and the doctor came in dancing and was just beaming! She said all of my lab work has come back down to normal ranges and she is so pleased! I have lost 19 pounds (still a long way to go!!) but all in all it was a most excellent visit!!

Thank you all for your advice, encouragement, and antics along this journey!!

Wonderful news Lei!! Congratulations, what a great reward for your hard work thus far!

Tuesday done...got a nice slow walk in again, about a mile and a half

Tonight is our weigh in our our weight loss challenge...i'm taking my "bye" week. I gained 7 while in the hospital, lost 3 but gained 2 right back. I know it will take a bit to get back on track. But it's just frustrating that this puts me back to where I was when this challenge started. Oh well I'll chalk this challenge up as a lost and thankfully there's enough weeks left that I can maybe squeeze 10lb total out of it. Then i'll be healed and ready to go the next round!

Angie, I know how easy it is to look at "weight lost" as the only measurable reward for all your hard work. I encourage you to please try to look at it another way. Weight (especially for us women) fluctuates so easily, it can be up to 10 pounds in a week! It is only human to look at the scale and feel so discouraged that it has climbed up so high, but you can be sure it was because of the saline, and also because you just had surgery and your body is trying to heal and recover instead of focusing on losing fat. Your body is an amazing, well-tuned device (device? I don't know..lol) and you should really cut yourself a little slack and focus on resting & recuperating. Once you are healed and ready to go you will get right back on track. Don't let a temporary water weight gain make you feel like a failure. You've worked so hard and you know in your heart of hearts it's still there, all that hard work and muscle you've been building. When you get back on track and start your program again it will catch up. You can bet your body did not build 7 pounds of fat while you were in the hospital!
The same thing happens to me certain times of the month and when I travel. Just stepping on a plane you can bet I'll be at least 5 lbs heavier when I get back from my trip. I have no idea why my body does this but once I get back on track my weight evens out again over the next week. I wish we weren't all so fixated on the scale but it's hard not to be. (I too have a goal weight, I'm always on the scale) What I always have to remember to take into account is that my body is more solid & muscular, I look better in a bathing suit and I can accomplish so much physically that used to totally wear me out. I weigh over 10 pounds more right now than I did before when I was wearing the same size clothes and I look better now than I did then. Scale weight should not matter. It is how you feel and how your clothes fit, and not to mention the sense of empowerment that exercise and sticking to a program gives us!

Conda, oh my goodness I know how you feel! There is only one tv here too so I really have to plan ahead and ask for a good time to fit in my workout. I have a small window so I have to take it when it's available. Sometimes it's very unfortunate because I'm STARVING or have just eaten so I just can't do it at that time. Having people watch you can be really awkward but after doing it a few times you are just like, "oh well!" and you just do what needs to be done. I used to be soooo self-conscious about working out I would only do it when no one else was around. Now I'm doing Ohms and I sound like a weirdo (Cheri, ha ha!) and balancing on my shoulders with my feet in the air when people are visiting the house wondering what this strange girl is doing, and making funny workout noises (grunts, yelps, panting, crying, screaming through gritted teeth) and I just don't care who hears or sees.

Cheri, lol!!! I can SO relate!!! (read above message to Conda)

ROTFL!
Good for you for pushing hard past your boundaries - you are really "bringing it" as Tony would say:)

I'm done for Monday too. This is my week 9, and I'm back on Chest and Back which I haven't done since week 3 (when we were last supposed to in the program). It was amazing how many more pushups I could do - yeah! Pullups, a couple more, but pushups were good.

It will only get better Cheri! Isn't it fun when you start a new phase and do the exercises you did in a previous one, it is always shocking how many more you can do! I remember when I was exactly where you are and I couldn't believe how easy it was to do what I had previously done, I had to switch out my bands for heavier ones to be challenged. WTG!!!

Lei, that is INCREDIBLE!!!! 19 pounds!! Wooooo!!!

Sara, take the enthusiasm and run with it! I know you would be able to complete a program if you tried, perhaps you feel tired when you are walking because you are a little bored. It's great that it's working for you and you are losing your pounds and inches and fitting into your jeans but you need to make sure you feel challenged and are enjoying your program so you don't grow tired of it and give it up. (Boredom is the number one cause of people abandoning a workout program.) How about creating some little challenges for yourself to liven it up? You could try intervals: walk at a slower pace for 4 minutes to warm up, increase the speed so you are walking very quickly (or running if you are comfortable with that) and it becomes very challenging for 30 seconds to a minute. Then go slow for a minute & catch your breath. Then increase intensity again, etc. High intensity intervals are excellent for kicking your body into fat burning mode! The important thing to remember is to go at your pace. Your intense should be whatever you can do to feel like you are pushing yourself & giving your best effort. You can also do intervals with other exercises. Squats, lunges, wall sits, etc. Making things more challenging might be what you need to mix it up and make it a little more exciting!

Tiza - I know what you mean about getting bored with a program. I used to dabble in programs and when I got bored I'd just move onto a different one. But there is no feeling like when you finish the challenge of a full program. It is important to not feel bored but I also don't want you to short-change yourself and miss out on that feeling of accomplishing something big that so many people have not finished. What programs do you have now? (I heard you mention Turbo Jam.) One thing that might really inspire you is to get you involved with someone or in a group of people who are doing the same thing. When you can compare your day to day workout with someone who is going through exactly what you are it really has a way of inspiring you. It helps keep people from giving up because they have someone to answer to. Are you thinking of ChaLEAN? I have a group starting P90X soon (I will be starting my 2nd round with them) and another group starting (possibly) Slim in 6, they are still deciding on a program that is markedly easier than P90X/Insanity/etc. (My mom will be orchestrating & motivating that group, Go Mom!!) I'm still trying to organize it in the best way because I want so much for everyone to succeed. Maybe you just haven't found your favorite program yet, or maybe mixing up different stuff is what you need to do now to keep it interesting. One really good thing about having a program is it's harder to skip a workout because you feel like you are messing up your program timeline. If you are doing your own stuff it's easier to take an impromptu day off (I know this from experience!) When I start to feel unmotivated I either 1)Push through, just do it anyway and once I start it's usually not as dreadful as I imagined. 2)Buy myself a new toy to make it fun (such as a new workout outfit or piece of equipment to use with your workout.) 3)Add in something new and challenging, such as striving for one more rep on each exercise or totally mixing it up like adding in a little challenge like 4 minutes of jump rope intervals in the morning. You might start feeling pumped and get excited to see more results, thus pushing harder on your workouts. You can also get creative and seasonal. Pack up some hot tea and round up the fam (or yourself if no one is being cooperative) and take a walk to enjoy the leaves. Go explore something you've been wanting to explore. Go mall walking to plan for Christmas gifts. Go out into your yard and look like a crazy person by doing walking lunges from one tree to the next (I've been planning on doing yard exercises too, my neighbors will certainly wonder!). Try to think of something, anything that is athletic that sounds fun or intriguing to do. Taiko was an excellent choice!

Oh I do understand that Sheri, and I know it's just a number..that is was all the saline they pumped in me for 3 days and the swelling. This has been a rollercoaster of 11 months dealing with those feelings and understanding that it's more about the journey.

I think the frustration for me come more from the stand still i'm in now both with the weight and physically, more than anything. You know when I started this in January the first couple of months was great...then I started the rollercoaster ride for a bit. It was no big deal to loose 6lbs in a week, then nothing for 2-3 weeks..over and over. Through that time I learned to be patient and figured out it wasn't all about the numbers on the scale, it was also the inches and the way things felt on.

Then I hit a 12 week period I felt I was at my "best" I averaged 3lbs a week, and was working out everyday. I felt great and it was paying off. So when we started this next weight loss challenge I was at the point that where if I could duplicate that last 12 weeks, I would be at my goal weight..and very excited about hitting it in a year.

Then came the injuries. Elbow/shoulder has kept me from lifting for about 4weeks now, couldn't even really do Turbo Jam because of the movement..so all I could do is walk. Then I hurt my knee riding my bike and couldn't walk much for almost 2 weeks due to swelling..still got stuff in, but worked through the pain. Now this. I had actually talked to my weight loss coach the week before my surgery about my arm injury and I told her "it's not about the destination it's about the journey" I knew then I wasn't going to hit my goal by the end of December..but I was still going to hit it. This phase in my weight loss journey is about healing and getting through it without giving up.

So I know what's causing/caused the issue and I know that it will come off. I've also faced the facts awhile ago that I wasn't going to hit my goal at the end of the year. I think for me what's frustrating more then anything is everything hitting at once. And hearing from doctors that this is my "reward" for loosing the weight or "i'm paying" for pushing so hard. I know they don't mean anything bad about it..and I know with my shoulder/arm I did it to myself. If I would of stopped to properly heal from the start it would probably be done with, but I didn't. And I know now, that the gallbladder issue is a trade off from rapid weight loss. But I think hearing that from 2 different people within 24 hours, then the surgery, the weight gain (when yes, you think not eating for 3 days you would lose something...I was hoping for 'some' positive..lol) the recovery and everything else i'm like "Can't a person get a break" LOL

I was lazy Sunday and Monday. Bad Pat. Had a lovely 45 minute walk today (Tuesday) although I have to admit that I spent about 5 of those minutes watching our neighborhood hawk soaring above me. He is sooo awesome.

Plyometrics done for Tuesday. Good thing it's easy on the arms, b/c they are (pleasantly) sore from all the pull and pushups from yesterday!

I think that is the crux of it Angie - you are always so intelligent and positive about what you're doing and why maybe something didn't happen yet, etc. But to be slammed with all that all at once, to quote a certain child in my house, "JUST ISN'T FAIR!" Another Mom at play group this morning has had a lot of medical things happening in her life/children's lives lately (accidents and a couple broken toes) that another Mom said all the bad stuff should be done by now and she should go get a lottery ticket. I replied, "With that kind of luck she'd OWE the lottery a million dollars when she scratched it off." lol

You're right; that's so disappointing you won't meet your goal in the time frame you had in mind. But I have no doubts whatsoever that you will persevere and hit the goal! Whether it happens a month later or whatever, makes no difference to me. Or to you in the long run. You are amazing, and you'll make it!

Plyometrics done for Tuesday! Man, I pushed hard. I kept in mind the entire time that this was my last time to do Plyo for this round of P90X so I pushed every time I wanted to slow down. Wow, was I a hot mess! Sweating, grabbing my knees, gasping for air, coughing from the lung exertion. But I felt good pushing hard. It was great.

Angie, I agree with Cheri. You have a great way of dealing with all this. And sometimes you just need to vent about frustrations. I am really impressed, inspired and proud of everything you've gone through. Those are some major accomplishments! It really must be frustrating & disappointing to feel like you are being "rewarded" for your hard work with injuries and gallbladder trouble. I'm glad you can also see the positives from your hard work. It really is major when someone can undergo a complete transformation and stick with it for so long. A lot of people start, get bored or realize "it's hard" and stop after a week or a month. You are awesome! *Hugs
Hang in there!

*hugssss Sheri* Thanks for the little pep talk and suggestions!! Currently, I am doing the TurboJam workouts (I have both the regular TJ DVDs plus the Fat Burning Elite add-on), and will mix up the routines depending on my energy & hunger levels when I get home from work. On the nights that I can't bring myself to doing one of those videos, I either go for a walk or ride my recumbent bike. Looking through my Beachbody history, it looks like I started TJ back in mid-July, and I started getting bored (or lazy) in September. Right now I am considering getting ChaLEAN, especially after hearing Conda talk about the workouts and how great she feels afterwards. (I hope she wasn't trying to keep that a secret :giggle_bear: )
Taiko class has been one of the best things I've done for myself lately. Although usually I am incredibly sore the following day.... which makes me think that the muscles in my arms & legs could use a lot more strength exercises. I only have 1 month of taiko classes left. :( I really really hope they offer another class in the spring! I don't care if I have to take the beginner's class over again.. I'll do it! I'm LOVING both the musical aspect and the physical aspect. It's all I can think about and talk about lately.

I actually have a colleague at work who exercises daily. Every morning the two of us compare our workouts and aches/pains. The gym she attends is too far from me, otherwise I'd think about joining her for the classees she takes. Well... yesterday we started talking about Beachbody workouts, and she mentioned that she might ask her mom for P90X for Christmas. I told her I was looking at ChaLEAN, so she hopped online to look it up. So now she doesn't know which program she'll get. I jokingly said that I'll get ChaLEAN and she can get P90X, and then after 90 days we'll switch. So I might be stuck ;)

P.S. I feel the need to mention that my colleague is a skinny, very fit person....who found Jillian's 30-Day Shred DVDs TOO EASY!! So her aches & pains aren't quite the same level as mine ;) I enjoy commiserating with my SG Shred ladies instead :)

Anyway... Tuesday is done. I did TurboJam's Booty Sculpt + Abs. My thighs & abs were burning!!

I also took measurements today, and lost a couple inches overall (since 10/25) - 1/2 in my waist, 1/2 in my hips, and 1/2 in each of my thighs. Every little 1/2-inch is a step in the right direction!!! :)

Tuesday is done for me. I went back to ChaLean Burn Circuit 1.

Now that I've been through the three months (that actually took four...), should I start at the beginning for another three months? Or is there a better way to proceed from here. I don't want to stop lifting. I believe my increased muscle mass has helped me maintain my weight/size when I'm not able to workout everyday or my eating is a little rich for a day or two. I don't think I want to jump into P90X though. If I do make another BB purchase, it'll probably be TJ sometime in the spring when I'm done taking my DD to the Y several times a week.

I'm down a total fo 10 lbs. since we started this last summer. I need to measure again. And check body fat. I know it is lower...but I have misplaced the little chart that gives the percentages! Ugh!

Wonderful!!
I just thought of another idea for you - every time you want to quit, look down at your legs:) I remember how much you liked the way they look in your new jeans!

When I want to quit during arm exercises, I chant "taiko arms, taiko arms" to myself ;)

But oooooh yeah I do love that one pair of jeans I bought. And today the shirt I was wearing gave me a really nice waistline. I looked thinner from the front.... the side view still needs some work.

Ugh!

Awesome Kim! Good for you with the weight loss and congrats on finishing CE! If you can't find the little body fat chart thingie at your house or online, let me know. I can photograph/scan mine and email to you (I know you bought it:)
Look in your CE book of what exercises to do on which day - there is a Lean for Life calendar where she tells you which workouts to do on which days. It mixes Burn, Push, and Lean workouts all into the same week with the cardio workouts in between as always. Over the course of a month you do every single one of the workouts. That's what I'd do for a month or two until you figure out what you want to move onto next (or what to ask for for Christmas;)

Yes, I really am still alive, but this is the first day I've had the energy to get on the forum.

I did 20 minutes of "chair exercise" today (Tues), and 20 minutes yesterday (Monday).

Please just give me a bandaid for last week. I have been doing the leg exercises to prevent blood clots, but I don't think they added up to 20 minutes.

Lei, congratulations on the great follow up visit! I know that had to feel good!

Angie, I'm so sorry to hear you had the surgery. I hope you are healing quickly with as little pain as possible.

Great work, everyone!

What Sheri said, Angie! I totally agree!

When I purchased, the body fat percentage chart was just a single sheet of paper with the plastic calipers. The book was a paperback book full of all sorts of information. If you don't know where the book is, here's the Lean for Life schedule:
Day 1: Burn Circuit 1
2: rest
3: Push 2
4: Burn Intervals and Extreme Abs
5: Lean 1
6: Burn it Off and Recharge
Week 2:
1: Burn 2
2: rest
3: Push 3
4: Burn Intervals and Ab Burner
5: Lean 3
6: Burn it off and recharge
Week 3:
1: Burn 3
2: rest
3: Push 1
4: Burn Intervals and Extreme Abs
5: Lean 2
6: Burn it off and recharge
Week 4:
1: Burn 1
2: rest
3: Push 1
4: Burn Intervals and ab burner
5: Lean 3
6: Burn it off and recharge

Way to finish strong everyone! Glad I got my workout in yesterday and will get to finish with a star instead of a band aid

Wednesday will be an "off" day for me. I was pretty sore last night so today I'm taking it easy and just staying in.

Wow, thanks, Cheri! That helps a lot. i was thinking the body fat chart was in the book, but maybe it was separate (but I probably left it in the book...) I did the proverbial 'put it somewhere so I wouldn't lose it' and now I don't remember where that was!
