Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to make the background papers or textures such as are offered here for sale and as freebies? I would like to learn the techniques. When I try they come out too heavy, blotchy, clumsy, etc, no matter how I lighten, soften, etc. I just need to learn techniques, I guess (plus have some artisitc talent to go with it!).

This is an example of what I want to learn. With a few rough edges thrown in. Names of brushes used to make this type of edge--and settings. I really need step by step and settings.

I apologize if I am not supposed to use these examples on the forum, but did not know how else to explain what I want.

Thank you all again,
Kimmer

Hi Kimmer, there is a tutorial in the University here: Making Your Own Digital Scrapbooking Paper with Brushes. If you want to see some of the examples of layouts created using this tutorial, check some of the layout links in this thread: Thursday Challenge 9-29-11. HTH :)

Ro covers some of the techniques in her More Scrapbook Secrets Revealed videos. The link I've given you is for the PSE version and there is a full Photoshop version too.

There are several grunge brushes available in the boutique that are often used for the roughed up edges and textures you see. The textures are also achieved with combining paper templates with different blend modes and colorings. My best suggestions is to just experiment with different templates, brushes and blending modes.

I was looking at a paper recently with a neat edge that looked like it'd been brushed with a sponge. I will have to check out the tutorial.

Thanks Theresa and Pat,

I will read what I can, sometime I feel so dense that I need step by slow step instructions.

Thanks so much for the input.

Brandy Murray did a neat UTube video on her dynamic brushes - blenders. In it she demonstrates cool ways to create fancy papers. both with brushwork and with combining existing papers. If you open up Ro's video in today's newsletter, you'll see a link to it on the right. I have watched it a few times, and want to watch it again while I have PSE open. I think you'll find it has some of what you're looking for.
