I had to smile when I finally saw what Ro had us sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for. Exactly where I had started scrapping back in about 2007 in Powerpoint (I used Open Office's Impress).
I learnt so much in that year and when I outgrew the software because I wanted to do so much more - I was ready to dive into more complex programs. The QPs are a great way to start and for many it's the getting started in a program that's the hard part. If I had been trying to learn Elements (or Photoshop or Gimp) right from the start, it would have been so much harder. But I already had done some stuff with powerpoint at work so it wasn't that much of a stretch to use it for scrapping.
I remember that each page didn't take very long, a lot shorter than it takes me now! So it's a great place to start.

Sometimes, the solution people are looking for is sitting right in front of them all the time, huh? LOL
Thanks for sharing your story. It's exactly what I'm hoping with happen... that using PowerPoint will help get people started! And even for people that use Photoshop quickly (like me), the PowerPoint method is great for when we just want to get 'er done fast!
Like I said... I went DUH when I thought of it!
I'm excited that it worked for you!

I'm clueless about Powerpoint, but I do intend to give it a try with some of Ro's items. I've been wanting to do some cds or dvds of family photos for my kids.

so if we scrap in 8.5 x 11 (or the horizontal landscape 11 x 8.5) will those layouts work in The 1-2-3 Presentation?

As I remember, you can import jpgs into power point presentations. So you'd want to flatten your layout before you bring it across. Someone help if I'm off base here, please.
