I've ceased worrying - our Discover card has now been compromised about 6 times over the years, maybe more. I think of it as a modern inconvenience, as I will not consider the "safe" alternative, which is to never purchase anything online. That is not fair to me (not having access to millions of cool things, including Scrap Girls!), and not fair to the businesses who would lose out on my business. I refuse to allow thieves to cause me undo worry and make me change my "as safe as they can be" habits.

I know what you mean, Cheri. It would be such an inconvenience to have to stop using the credit cards. We have had it happen twice, with two different cards.

The charges are from stores where I have bought things, but not online (so far). I wonder if it is mostly poor pc skills and wrong entries that is happening. So far I've caught it by looking at my account online, or either the credit card security has called me. Evidently it happens a lot.

I used to work in a lost stolen credit card company, and we had about 20 lines each going constantly with people calling in about lost stolen cards! This was years ago!I am very careful, but I think it just happens a lot. I'm not stopping either.

I guess you all have seen the information about scanners that thieves or stores can read your card in your purse! They are saying to line your purse in aluminum foil to keep the scanners from reading it! It is probably true. Last Christmas a shopping center tracked people in the mall by thier cell phones if you had it on. What ever happened to privacy?

The option of getting a temporary number is a good one that I had never heard of before! I am going to check that out!
